"you get it. They do not" Maybe FReepers should take over congress. Any doubt that we could do a better job?

Probably that passengers should remain seated and not try to attack the poor terrorists, they'll make them crash the plane. The sad thing is .. they would say that

The Senators have said nothing worthwhile about the American Airlines Airbus Crash On November 12, 2001 in a NYC suburb when one of the shoe bomber's pals blew it up in the sky just after take-off on a beautiful clear day. "Oh, planes just fall out of the sky sometimes. Doo Doo happens."

Not in the freaking least could we do worse. That was Jefferson's plan - that we would all serve our one term in Congress, do our best for the country, and come back home to our own business.
NOT stay our entire lives, get rich through corrupt associations, get blow jobs with naive interns, and come back home a hero, and a millionaire.

The career politicians are now only concerned with getting re-elected and pandering for votes via handouts of various sorts. Hence the term "demosclerosis". Yes, I agree we could do a better job. If you are not concerned with reelection, wouldn't you be inclined to do what is best for the country (think freedom, liberty and national security) and not worry about the screaming leftists and PC whores? Just serve your term, do your constitutional duty, and go home, proud that you've acquitted yourself with integrity.

Here's a historian setting the record straight about the much-maligned Crusades:
The Real History of the Crusades Misconceptions about the Crusades are all too common. The Crusades are generally portrayed as a series of holy wars against Islam led by power-mad popes and fought by religious fanatics. They are supposed to have been the epitome of self-righteousness and intolerance, a black stain on the history of the Catholic Church in particular and Western civilization in general. A breed of proto-imperialists, the Crusaders introduced Western aggression to the peaceful Middle East and then deformed the enlightened Muslim culture, leaving it in ruins....
....the Crusades to the East were in every way defensive wars. They were a direct response to Muslim aggressionan attempt to turn back or defend against Muslim conquests of Christian lands.
Christians in the eleventh century were not paranoid fanatics. Muslims really were gunning for them. While Muslims can be peaceful, Islam was born in war and grew the same way. From the time of Mohammed, the means of Muslim expansion was always the sword.
