I have always been opposed to the DARE program at school... even though it didn't sit well with my friends in the Sheriff's Office. It's worse than ineffective, it works against the stated cause.... just like "Partnership for a Drug-Free America" commercials are counter-productive.

Come on Mo - he's saying that the gov should not ever be able to tell us to squirt or swat. If you can't believe that we are I N D I V I D U A L S! Then why are we speaking?

Loddy, I agree there are A LOT of stupid laws but I also think that some law are necessary .. just because we are I N D I V I D U A L S! does not mean that we can just walk around and do whatever we want to ..

We are a land with laws that yes were also around when the Founding Fathers Started this Great Nation

We tried to fight DARE when it first came out....we lost.

I do like the commercial that has the thirty year old guy in the upstairs of his parents home yelling downstairs about how he can get a job next week.

Then he lights a joint and sighs about how drugs never hurt him....

Reminds me of a few people.

When my fellow citizens want to make decisions while clear-headed, I can be trusting. But when my fellow citizens have given their minds and priorities to dope and have allowed their judgement to become impaired, then I am a fool to trust them - even when they claim they are not impaired.

He believes a lot like you.

I am not trying to make light of Val's dilemma, or Mo's FUTURE problems, but I DO believe that ultimately, the only person who can keep you away from drugs, is the person that you see in the mirror. (Excepting Dracula Val, of course)

And since the Gov't has made a MOCKERY of the Bill of Rights, ALL of it in the name of fighting drugs, then you don't have to be a genius to see that they didn't have these kinds of problems when drugs were legal, and there was no profit motive in them for kids to pursue.

But since law enforcement now gets to keep part of what they take from unconvicted forfeiture victims, there IS a large motivation for the establishment to CONTINUE the drug war. All in the name of helping the kids.

Answer me this... we represent most of the area of the U.S. here on this thread. Is there ANY part of our reading area, where you CAN'T get illegal drugs?? If not, then the ONLY thing the drug war has accomplished, is to make felons out of about 10 million people, and to raise the prices on the drugs, further enticing profit motivated people. Oh, and it also spawned about a million more federal employees and countless ones at the state and local level.

I've got to get off for a little bit, but I have to ask you why you do not trust your fellowman?

Because many have not earned the trust

Those who are willing to trade essential Liberty for temporary security deserve neither.

Is there any place in America where some people WON'T get illegal drugs precisely because they are illegal and they don't want to be caught breaking the law? Laws are deterrants to many crimes by weak people (youths, depressed adults) until they develop strength and wisdom to resist temptation.

Is the central issue whether the Govt should have the War on Drugs? Or is the central issue whether a culture should accept that these drugs are bad for you?

It depends on who the government is. Is the government "we the people" or an arbitrary dictator?

There you go again, writing another law, and using the power of the Gov't to enforce your preferences...

Writing a law doesn't make it wrong. Ask the people who peacefully used drugs for ten thousand years. You seem to forget, this prohibitionist movement spawned by Collectivists, is a relatively NEW concept, started within the lifetime of people still living.

Even the freaking PURITANS didn't outlaw drugs... And I bet you they could tell you a thing or two about having a repressive Collective society being against you too. They APPRECIATED their INDIVIDUAL rights that they had sailed across the ocean for three months, to achieve.

Why is there a law against murder? Shouldn't I just trust anyone who has a notion to murder me to not do so? They are individuals with rights they oughtn't have to earn, aren't they? I am just a sanctimonious Pharisee - who am I judge someone with rights and liberty who has had enough of my presence on this planet?

SOCIETY doesn't have to accept anything, and that is usually how people conduct themselves, based on what is acceptable to society.

But that STILL doesn't give the Gov't the right to prohibit our use of substances, or to decide what is 'acceptable,' according to my copy of the Constitution.

Heck if I know .. he seems to be jumping back in forth .. reminds me of the conversations I have with my mother .. lol

I made a point to say that the "war on drugs" is stupid and there are a lot of stupid laws about drugs .. I just don't thing that drugs should be legal
