I hear the folks of Whoville are prolife..."a person's a person no matter how small"!
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
I figure Opie will get it...he's a Hollywood regular. NZ PJ swooping in just seems unlikely to me as well. But I have hope! And I do really look forward to seeing the characters!

Rounding up the elves is not going to be a popular idea... not only do we like them, but they are better archers than we are. If anyone can hit a fast-moving Who (in the event that becomes necessary).... its a wood-elf!

The predictions so far haven't made as much sense as the prediction Lucius just reported from E Weekly. If anything, PJ deserves Best Director, and if ABM has to win something big, it should be for Picture. LoTR is a much bigger Directing acheivement than ABM... a much harder directing task, elves, orcs, shrunken lead actors and battle scenes to coordinate.

This makes sense...
I'm getting anxious...
To: 2Jedismom
Of course, if Russell Crowe is as much of a butt-head as everyone reports... maybe ABM was a directing challenge too ;~D

Of course, if Russell Crowe is as much of a butt-head as everyone reportsHey watch out with that stuff, Crowe ruled the Empire of Rome, let me tell you that makes you cranky sometimes!!

Here are our boys making a Liv sandwich.
Clearly Billy Boyd is getting the best deal, as you can tell from his expression

Say, wasn't there a thread about the awards show in which the article said that LOTR was nominated for 11 Oscars? I tried to find it to post a correction (we all know it is 13 nominations), but can't find it. What could someone have posted to get it yanked? (Unless it was because of the bad number).
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Do a self-search
To: HairOfTheDog;John Robinson
Do a self-searchGot it, thanks. I searched on 'oscar' but thought it was on the other forum. I wish you could do a search across forums!

Oy. I'm rather jealous of Billy!
What time are we starting our chat this evening? And what network is the broadcast on?

'fantasies don't win' But Hollywood is also a sucker for movies made from great novels so the truisms cancel each other out.
I continue to hope for the best because the Academy does like to reward moviemakers who gamble and win, both financially and creatively. In another close year, Hollywood surprised the heck out of me by doing just that when they honored the very non-PC Braveheart with Best Picture and Best Director in 1995.
Like LOTR, Braveheart with its epic battle of good against evil was a major creative and financial gamble that paid off for its makers. Who would have thought you could make a hit out of a three hour movie about some obscure historical figure who had died almost 700 years ago?

My sister and brother-in-law own a pool hall right next to our local theatre and she told me today that FOTR was back on the marquee. It had been gone since Mid-February, but now it's back. I'm going to call them and ask if they have the TT trailer, boy I hope they do, otherwise I will need to travel 35 miles to the nearest town with a theatre still playing FOTR.
You know it would be kind of funny if the TT trailer propelled FOTR back into the top-10 box office for the week.

Well I did read that they were doing a big push to get the film back in theaters starting on the 22nd - but I don't think they are running the trailer till the 29th... let me know what happens!
To: The Iron Duke
The argument about fantasies is rather circular, I think. They say fantasies don't win, but don't point to the fact that LOTR is the only big budget movie ever made from a fantasy with a signifigant literary reputation. Oh well, Best Picture award in a little more than 7 hours now!
To: HairOfTheDog
According to Box Office Mojo, LOTR is running on 216 more screens this weekend than last. This does not appear to have put it back in the top ten. I suspect a lot of repeat viewers are probably waiting for next weekend and the TT trailer.

By the way, from another item on this site, LOTR is now only $9 million behind Star Wars in unadjusted worldwide gross box office.
