angelo, how far did we get on the last thread of TNS before we switched over to our current thread? Weren't we closing in on 30,000?

OT will have to send out for croissants. Working with that extra buttery dough when outdoor temps are in the 90's is a royal pain.

Don't count your Precious's before they are grasped. ;^)

Nope, if grabbing the big 10,000 means having to host, I would (gulp), let it pass. Not that I'm not hospitable or anything.

I'm merely incompetent.

Keith Laumer's a new acquaintance.

The Retief series of books? I loved those. I read a few of them when I was in high school, I thought they were hilarious.

My wife says part of being a good cook is knowing where to find the best bakery.

When we lived in DC, she worked with a woman who never cooked. But she would have people over and pick up cookies from the bakery. She also kept a roll of cookie dough in the freezer and before company came would bake one cookie, so that it smelled like she had baked them all...

Have you read any of them, you or anyone else here?

I've read some Heinlein, my favorites of his being Starship Troopers and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. My wife is the real Heinlein fanatic in our household (pardon me while I ping her here). I read a lot of Asimov and Clarke when I was younger... Niven and Pournelle have written two of my favorite books, Footfall and Lucifer's Hammer. I haven't read much of their solo stuff, though.

I've read some of James Hogan & Charles Sheffield, a little of Tad Williams & George R. R. Martin (primarily in the "Wild Cards" series), I read a lot of Keith Laumer a long time ago (primarily his Retief & Bolo stories), haven't read any Orson Scott Card or John Ringo.

My own all-time favorite author is Roger Zelazny. I've read everything he's written, multiple times. Of current authors, I'd say my favorite is Peter Hamilton... I think his "Night's Dawn" trilogy is a really good space-opera, although it may not be for everyone.

If my wife gets some time to chime in, you'll find her favorites (Heinlein, Alan Dean Foster, Anne McCaffrey) are at quite a variant to mine.

the crescant shape which mocks the Turkish flag.

Hmm, even more reason to enjoy BurgerKing's Croissan'wich, which features a croissant split down the middle and filled with an egg and a pork sausage patty...

mmmmmmm, croissan'wich....

Sorry TNS wasn't closing in on 30,000 posts. We ended the previous TNS thread at 37,680 posts. The only reason we stopped that one is because of when they switched to the new forums so we started a new thread in the Religion forum.

If it weren't for that we would still be going strong on that thread.
