Nope, if grabbing the big 10,000 means having to host, I would (gulp), let it pass. Not that I'm not hospitable or anything.
I'm merely incompetent.
The Retief series of books? I loved those. I read a few of them when I was in high school, I thought they were hilarious.

My wife says part of being a good cook is knowing where to find the best bakery.
When we lived in DC, she worked with a woman who never cooked. But she would have people over and pick up cookies from the bakery. She also kept a roll of cookie dough in the freezer and before company came would bake one cookie, so that it smelled like she had baked them all...
*sniff* I think I smell a '000' coming up soon.
*sniff* *sniff* No, wait, that's just me, nevermind. ;^)

I've read some Heinlein, my favorites of his being Starship Troopers and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. My wife is the real Heinlein fanatic in our household (pardon me while I ping her here). I read a lot of Asimov and Clarke when I was younger... Niven and Pournelle have written two of my favorite books, Footfall and Lucifer's Hammer. I haven't read much of their solo stuff, though.
I've read some of James Hogan & Charles Sheffield, a little of Tad Williams & George R. R. Martin (primarily in the "Wild Cards" series), I read a lot of Keith Laumer a long time ago (primarily his Retief & Bolo stories), haven't read any Orson Scott Card or John Ringo.
My own all-time favorite author is Roger Zelazny. I've read everything he's written, multiple times. Of current authors, I'd say my favorite is Peter Hamilton... I think his "Night's Dawn" trilogy is a really good space-opera, although it may not be for everyone.
If my wife gets some time to chime in, you'll find her favorites (Heinlein, Alan Dean Foster, Anne McCaffrey) are at quite a variant to mine.
Forget to shower this morning Kevin?
Hmm, even more reason to enjoy BurgerKing's Croissan'wich, which features a croissant split down the middle and filled with an egg and a pork sausage patty...
mmmmmmm, croissan'wich....
If it weren't for that we would still be going strong on that thread.

I guess I'm an easy touch...
Just trying to distract.

Hey, it's potluck. We'll all bring something...
