Mmm, thanks for the clarification. I don't think I would identify with that first group of people. Didn't that happen in a city called Munzner or something like that?

You mean you are an Anabaptist, as opposed to a Baptist? Didn't think there were many of them around! When I lived in D.C. we were members of a Interdenominational Church that was started by the Mennonites and thus had close ties. We met in a restored turn of the century Lutheran church. Our senior pastor (who never wore a necktie until he moved to DC, always wore the Mennonite "plain coat") just smiled at the fact that the "Seal of Luther" was carved into the ceiling.

Didn't that happen in a city called Munzner or something like that? Sounds about right, not absolutely sure. It was a good thing, the way it brought about true Christian fellowship among the Calvinists, Lutherans and Catholics though.

As far as I am concerned, the theological and liturgical differences, which are substantial, between Catholics and Baptists, should be put aside because of the religious, moral and ethical beliefs which we share. We are in a crisis of our civilization, and must put first things first. I have the same attitude towards the Episcopalians, Lutherans, Orthodox, Methodists, and other high and low church Christians, and the Jews, who share these beliefs to a greater or lesser degree. That's a very wise statement.

That's a very wise statement. Can I say amen on this thread? Amen.
Like they say, it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Here's a quote from a CBF webpage:
Q: Can you provide a "bottom line" on the Fellowship? A: Certainly. It is our shared belief in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of Scripture. Out of these basics grows our passion for what we call "a new way to be Baptist." Through grace, we're invited to cooperat with God, and through grace we seek to cooperate with each other. We seek to help others find a home in a fellowship that celebrates our God-given diversity [Give you three guesses what this means. . .] and our unity in Christ.
Fuzzy-headed liberalism. That's from A HREF="http://www.cbfnet.net/about/coordinatorinterview.cfm">here. I don't dislike these folks because of their beliefs...doctrinally, they are basically very similar to S. Baptists. It's the liberal thought they have threaded through the doctrine that irritates me. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a liberal.
Oh, and the typo isn't mine...

That's a very wise statement. What the heck, I am Elrond, it's just part of the job.

Have any of you guys ever tried one of the Tolkien based Mush's? I was thinking of trying one out. TheOneRing.net has a pretty good review of Elendor, I may try that one out, but wanted to check with people over here first to get their insight.

That's right, nothing like an old fashioned Bar-B-Q to bring people together... Kevin, whatever you do don't go over to the Religious Wars and say "Bar-B-Q" to a Calvinist...trust me on that one...
To: 2Jedismom
Thanks for digging that out 2JM. Yep, looks like another religious-left liberal front group.

Yes, that's it. Back to hobbit stuff.
Enough silliness. Sorry for the diversion.

Kevin, whatever you do don't go over to the Religious Wars and say "Bar-B-Q" to a Calvinist...trust me on that one...I will defer to your experience on this. ;^)

Seems like if you say Bar-B-Q on any thread you're in for a flame war!
To: Overtaxed; ksen
Well you should know I'm a native Virginian, but the only kind of Bar-B-Q my wife prepares is North Carolinian...not that I'm complaining...
To: Overtaxed;Corin Stormhands
I bet ol' Sam could whip up a mean Bar-B-Q. All he would need would be a few things that Merry and Pippen could "borrow" from Farmer Maggot. ;^)

Kinda hard to "borrow" a pig...
You should also never try to teach one to sing.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
I'm not very religious, though I do belong to a fishing club and do have some deer hunting buddies which seems to make for just as much controversy and argument. All kidding aside, I agree with you that all the Christian denominations as well as the Jewish ones are fundamentally similar in ethics and thrust.
"When the ship is sinking, everyone who is willing to help bail us out should be enlisted in the effort."
I think so too, but I notice that some on the left, including the religious left, wish to use the situation for a tool to further their usual agenda.

I notice that some on the left, including the religious left, wish to use the situation for a tool to further their usual agenda. That is correct, which is why I limited things to 'everyone who is willing to help bail us out'.
