Hello, Hair. Aren't there very big trees out there? If some of those get blown down, it could cause some damage.

I will be sitting here a bit afraid tonight when it is blowing. I reported over on the storm thread too, that the winds kicked up a little last night, and one 8 inch diam. tree behind me snapped. I can tell now that it was sick inside.
I have one big hemlock about 16 in diameter in the yard that is my main concern because he is upwind and only about 15 feet from the house. Hemlocks fall over naturally about this age. They don't get much bigger than this guy. I should have it taken out. I am not that worried about the bigger firs, they will break limbs, but they won't come down. And the Cedars never break.
Hemlocks just have little finger roots. When the ground is this saturated, they just rot out and pull loose from the ground.
EEEEK!
I live in a double-wide mobile. Any tree would smash it flat. The barn has nice big timbers in it. Maybe I will go sleep with the horses!

Sam, we were there in '86, did an ATC independent-type tour. I got a bark painting at the Aboridgine Cultural Center in Brisbane. In Sydney we stayed at a hotel in The Rocks, turned a corner a there was the Harbor Bridge all lit up, quite a sight. Oz is quite a country, great to visit but don't think we handle living there.

Usually, yeah... It hasn't started yet, I think the storm is still in Oregon. Our storm winds usually come from the South. I don't want to worry you even more, but the wind will also be coming from the direction of my neighbor that just logged this summer. My trees haven't been tested in winds before. They used to be protected. That is why I am worried! I will wear a helmet to bed.
I have to go into town now and get some hay. Talk to you in a bit!

We got a bark painting also. I know that stuff is made for tourists these days, but we tried our best to find one that looked fairly traditional and used the old colors, paints and themes, even went to the art museum to see what the old ones looked like, and of course just to see all the rest of the art, too.
Sydney harbor is beautiful, it's true. The headlands at the entrance are something else.
I much prefer the good old U.S.A. too, but there are some foreign countries I could manage, Australia is certainly one. I think the Bahamas might do OK, also.

Heh. And the beach house will have its own worries. The winds are gonna hit right at high tide so they will be nervously watching the dock rock and roll, with the other eye on the alder-trees in the gully.

OK - I am really gone now... If the horses run out of hay, they will really be mad, trees or not.

I am back and the hay is unloaded!
Got some higher protein food soft for old Zulu to add to her crunchies. Also bought Red Cell supplement for her. She hasn't been holding her weight at all recently, always on the light side, she is now downright bony. I need to get some weight on her. If she got sick now, she wouldn't have the reserves to make it a week. Poor old girl. She is 17.

When I look at these pictures together, she looks so frail now! The top one was probably taken 15 years ago. It was an old favorite that I scanned. She looks older in the bottom one taken a month or so ago than she did last spring when I took the three dogs photo at the beach that is on my profile page.

And how did the gum tree do with all that worrying? It dropped a branch that ripped a shingle on the front on the first night...before I started worrying. :)

Me too... I am running the bedsheets for the guest beds now in the wash, and then I am done with cleaning. Oh... except horse beds. I still have to clean stalls.
