I like "Gollum's Song". It makes me a bit teary thinking of the anguish Gollum must be going through watching Sam and Frodo. One of the lines says something about not having a faithful friend to help him out. I wonder if seeing Sam and Frodo's friendship makes him think of what might have been between him and Deagol.

The girl who sings "Gollum's Song" reminds me of Edie Brickell from Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians.

I like everything about the song except for the vocal melody. But it's supposed to sound tormented, not happy-go-lucky.

I agree with you on the friendship thing. It's the most powerful set of words in the whole song: "No loyal friend was ever there for me". In hindsight, I'm sure Smeagol came to realize how much more Precious a true friend is as compared to the Ring of Power.

I enjoy reading first impressions too - I mean, I've been reading stuff by all you guys for over a year now (!) and it's fun to hear how like-minded fans think. That's why I hope everyone will spill their guts after viewing!

I like Gollum's Song too! I like it a lot! I haven't heard definitively how it is used in the film yet. whether it is in the film, or just the credits. Have you?

I wish I had yellow paddock boots! - That would be wonderful! - I could dance out to the barn singing "Come Doll Merry Doll!" The ponies would like that!

Knowing ponies, I'm sure they'd like being fed even better, but I'm sure they'd appreciate your singing, too.

You could probably get yellow rubber safety boots from an industrial supply catalog. Not quite as stylish as you'd like, but they'd be yellow. :)

I will see if I can find some yellow paddock boots! - But you are right... As long as I feed them, they can "take or leave" the singing.

"What if we all hate it?"

Then I suppose we'll all have to discuss "The Hot Chick" movie instead (eeeeek!)

Bye Sam!

By the way, are you and the Missus going to see TTT on the 18th?

I've only heard that it will play at the end of the credits. I can imagine it being used as Gollum looks at Frodo and Sam sleeping, or as he tracks them after abandoning them in Shelob's lair.

I was picturing it being played while watching Frodo sleeping too... with flashbacks to his former life... or something. I also heard of it being played over the credits... BUT that was mostly supposition by us. I haven't seen it mentioned in a review.

I think we may wait a few days, like we did last year, to avoid the crowds, not sure if we'll see it here, or in the PRC of Charlottesville, where we are headed in a few days.

Hair,
Next time you are feeling blue over your computer connection, think of a house with one phone line, one computer from the 1st Age, a visiting niece or nephew constantly wanting to play computer games, a brother who has "serious work" to be done online, and/or another sibling having to make a call... and thank your lucky stars! With that dramatic complaint, I take my leave (under protest) for now.

You're simply amazing to have that kind of patience.

I expect the first viewing to be packed to the gills. But I do plan to see it more than once, so let me know if you and Mrs. Cree decide to see it here, I may request to tag along with my hubby.
