if Legolas can defy the laws of nature by having perpetually clean hair while others around him have greasy and matted do's, then I think his arrows can knock out an orc

I agree. They are applying the laws of man to an elf! mistake. ;~D

Just post a few at a time. Please!

OK, I'll start working on it on my lunch break today.

I'm struggling with how to respond. You concisely paint a very accurate and very depressing picture. If what you say is true, and I believe it probably is, then we need to steel ourselves and our children for a pretty bleak future.... But I believe God will protect his people, and that hope remains....

Yer welcome. I'm re-reading the Silmarillion in preparation for next month. It's so very rich and timeless and gets better with every reading.

Was that your theory? I used it to convince my doubtful peers about the movie. They seemed to think the orcs died to easily. (...that, and the Fellowship is comprised of elite fighters and an Istari.)

No... that wasn't my theory. I didn't care if the orcs died to easily or not, as long as they died. I'm a very simple thinker. Aragorn is handsome, and he kills orcs... cool!

John, Carton was just saying "Mine" about the precious she almost got, but lost! It is a Hobbit Hole psychosis...

Orcs not having a will to live is an interesting angle I hadn't considered. I answered the same question by saying orcs were just not all that bright. They were kinda big dumb thugs without a lot of intelligence... But they could easily be completely without hope or will to live also.

G'nad... I do see Lurtz as being more "alive" than the other orcs. Especially after the knife licking, which I still think is absolutely gross. More like a man, perhaps. ;~D

No... I didn't spam... I'm being real technical about this. The precious was unoccupied...One post would have claimed it. I waited and waited... no one claimed it. And Gollum wanted it, so he went for it. Lost it fair and square and without whining...

You are a better geek than I - I haven't had time to read at all. I hope to get through the books again before next month, but I haven't started yet! And I wasn't thinking of taking on Silmarillion yet!

#42,892: There is a precious coming up. Smeagol will not be going for it...

#42901: Mine.

I am sensing a bit of disconnect. Is Gollum giving you a rough time again Smeagol?

Oh, I agree. I just finished reading it all the way through for the first time a couple of months ago, and I was just amazed at how multilayered and wonderful those stories are....
