I missed that... I was doing the very fast forward until I recognized something new. This weekend, I will watch the whole thing... providing I get my homework done.
To: g'nad
I'm always amazed at the light gathering ability of the "optics" (as the "writers" call them).
Do they not allow a rifle there? That 870's a versatile weapon though.
I finally wrote an email to my nephew and put out my feelings in a straightforward manner concerning my blackpowder rifle.
He's just bought a model 700 .270 and is all excited and happy about it, as he should be...hope he gets a nice one.
To: Sam Cree
a nice one...deer, that is.
To: g'nad
Congrats on getting it! I was going to write and tell you that Amazon is usually quicker than their "projected delivery date...", but I didn't want to get your hopes up. I'm glad it came. It's good, isn't it?
To: g'nad
I almost hit a deer Monday night coming home from drama. It would have broken my heart. I love deer. I understand the need to hunt them because they have no natural enemies, and I do support even raising the "hunter limit", but still, I think they are beautiful animals.
This one was a doe. So soft and beautiful. If there had been a car in the other lane, I would have had to hit her. Thank you Lord for looking out for me.
To: Overtaxed
That's very funny!
To: carton253
I think they're beautiful, too. Also, delicious.
Sometimes, if you hit one, I think you can take it home and eat it.
I love them too, actually, even though I hunt them.
To: carton253
That's not counting all the pickup trucks that have mysteriously been parking on the sides of backroads lately.
To: Sam Cree
Oh, I could never eat them. Especially if I was the one who caused their death.
To: Sam Cree
I'm amazed too... I got this bucks number... he beds down in a pine thicket on top of a hill, goes in at dawn comes out at dusk... ruts kickin' in, so his pattern will change... till mid Dec... I'm patient...
Shotgun only on base... no worries... it was shotgun only in Iowa too... I got a 20" fully rifled slug barrel fer Mary, and a 24" shot barrel... yer right about versatile... I got the earliest Special Purpose Magnum, before the composite stock... kilt deer, boar, rabbit, 'coons, turkey, pheasant, quail, dove, ducks and geese with it...
so what'd you tell yer nephew? if yuh don't mind me askin'...
good call on the .270... did I have anythin' to do with that?
To: carton253
It's good, isn't it? The half hour I'vre watched so far? oh yeah...
To: carton253; Sam Cree; Overtaxed
glad you missed it darlin', and that yer safe... the last thing you need is a totaled car and hospital bills...
yes, they are pretty animals, graceful... but they aren't the loving, gentle creatures you see on Bambi... I've seen does battle over the peckin' order many a time, and seen bucks fight to near death...
they're tastey too... mmmmmm....backstraps....
To: g'nad
...told him I felt like someone was asking to take my lover into the woods for a week...I tried to say it as nicely as possible, though, said I was torn, etc. Basically, just the truth. He understood.
Yes, I very definitely did relay him your advice. Your advice that the gun should "fit" him was kind of key, I believe.
I like the .270 also, that model 700 is a very balanced and nice feeling gun as well as shooting good. Couple other guys I know like it, too, but several were leaning on him to get the model 7.
To: Overtaxed
At least the camper population exploded. uummmmm... they're called trailers OT... I thought they were pretty common down yonder... ;o)
To: All
See you guys later.
To: Sam Cree
...told him I felt like someone was asking to take my lover into the woods for a week... LOL!! glad I'm not the only one that feels that way...
He should like the 700,itsa good rifle... model 7 is almost too lite IMO... I do love those Sakos though...
To: g'nad
Well... all that may true, but as far as I'm concerned, it's all about Bambi.
I realize that the animal world is alot more vicious... I've seen horrifying things on nature shows...
But, I'm the typical city dweller... aren't they all just a bunch of cute, cuddly things...
I don't mind hunters. It's something I couldn't do. And again, even though I like beef, chicken, and pork... I'm not killing the animal and then dressing it. I'm buying chops, ribeyes, and drumsticks.
Some would say that's a contradiction of terms. I realize that... but I'm a walking contradiction of terms.
There's part of me that says, "I hope you get that buck..." and then there's part of me who wants to protect the buck and make sure that you never get it...
So, I just try not to think about it... Denial is not just a river in Egypt, you know.
To: carton253
There's part of me that says, "I hope you get that buck..." and then there's part of me who wants to protect the buck and make sure that you never get it... you wanna know sumthin' Rosie? I think the same thing... it's not about the killin'... it's about the chase... and makin' a clean shot... if I never get that buck, I wish him well... he has given me much pleasure...
To: All
gotta roll... gotta get some work done...
To: g'nad
Who's Rosie? I'm Smeagol....
And I understand your sentiment exactly.
