That is a good question. Perhaps it's one that Tolkein didn't think of, nor have the answer for. I've perused "The Letters of JRRT" for mention of Ent and Hobbit, yet to find any with the two together in reference to your question. Ents learned their language from the Elves first, then the men. That's what I know so far.

I do remember Gandalf making the remark in his first scenes with Frodo (can't recall what the book said about it) that the world goes on, largely unaware of Hobbits and their life in the Shire, for which he was very grateful. But you raise a good point.

The dwarven people have found a deep satisfaction in metal working, food, drinking, and, of course, protecting their own. Known for their ferocity in battle, many a person has mistaken their diminutive size for weakness. Many a person has also ended up with broken or missing appendages, as well. Their obscure, quiet humor often leaves people feeling dwarves are a humorless race. Such people are usually the butt of a dwarven joke.

Yes, and that potty break scene is perfectly placed in the film. The Indiana Jones scene in Moria is another good spot, but then I have to come up with another reason to get up at the mirror, so I usually sit through that one.
