Our WalMarts always look like a third world country. English speaking white people are the distinct minority. I don't go there too often except around Christmas time if I'm trying to find something I can't find elsewhere. But they do have good deals, and I'm all for unfettered capitalism...

I'm bad but I'd rather pay shipping costs than go out shopping. The only thing I don't shop for online is groceries.

We don't have a Wal-Mart! - My town sent them packing! So did my town, or the liberals on the board or whatever it's called sent them packing.
It destroyed the town. Seriously. Everything (small stores included) has pretty much moved to the town with the Wal-Mart now. And those of us who had no choice in the matter would like to do some slapping around, but it's too late.

...and if the merchant doesn't have a brick and mortar store in-state, so much the better. :)
To: Overtaxed
Gee...why could that be, Overtaxed? ;-)
To: RosieCotton
Hehehe.....as if you didn't know.

BTW...700 words left now, but I'm truly writing crap. ;-) Not been a good day for writing.

Well, it hasn't done that here.... There isn't a Walmart within 30 miles that I know of, we have all the other chains, and we are doing alright without Walmart!
We've never had one, so I don't know exactly what I am missing, and neither does anyone else.
To: HairOfTheDog
We don't have any other chains...I guess that's partly why people are upset. There are few chains up here (few stores of any type), so bringing a Wal-Mart to town would have brought people in from around the area - created some jobs, and brought customers to town who would then patronize other businesses. But as it is...they lost that chance. I really think it was the beginning of a business boom for Littleton (NH town maybe 35 miles from here) - they have grown at an astounding rate since Wal-Mart showed up, and I don't think it's just a coincidence.
Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the big chains, but in this case, even the family stores benefited.

Is Fred Meyer open 24 hours?I don't know. I've never heard of Fred Meyers before.

We've even started groceries from Simon Delivers. It's working out all right so far. Their selection isn't perfect, so I have to run out for stuff sometimes, but it's great to have groceries delivered right to your door... And the price differential is negligible if you select the right items....
To: RosieCotton
Don't start talking crap about your story again today. You are doing a great job.
Is your next chapter up?

I've heard of Fred Mertz.....(and I don't mean the Freeper)

Is Fred Meyer a West-Coast phenomenon? - It is like a Walmart...

Not been a good day for writing. I'm having a fairly decent day as far as crap is concerned.

Is your next chapter up?Not yet. I have some stuff I wrote yesterday, but not much, and I figured I'd try to finish todays quota before posting. I'm almost done with the chapter I'm working on, though, so I'll probably just stop there, even if I'm not quite at my quota. I made up about 1200 words today, so I'm sure I can make up three or four hundred tomorrow if I have to!

it's great to have groceries delivered right to your doorWhen it comes to groceries, I'd rather pick the stuff myself. I don't want to hassle with returning almost expired milk, gray meat, and produce that's on its way out.
To: Overtaxed
I'm having a fairly decent day as far as crap is concerned.Crap production 'r us?
625...it's happening, but slowly and badly!

I still cringe at paying shipping costs. It depends on what the shipping costs are. Some merchants really try to stick it to you. To me it's worth the 2 bucks to have them send me a CD.
