I'm working with Matthew on his math right now...he's studying linear and square inches...shapes, like octogons, hexagons, pentagons ect and their lines of semetry.

Well, it might be a Nordic tendency... The Norse men on my mother's side were I suppose like that. My Dad is actually more English I think than anything else, and the English can usually be upset without surliness. He's an exception I guess.
But the these guys are great when they are not grumpy, as you said. Perhaps because you appreciate the difference so much. I once tried to explain that I loved it when he was happy, but that it took some of the joy out of trips for the rest of us walking on eggshells and worrying that a flat tire would make him mad at us. I don't want to feel guilty about a flat tire.
But those conversations never really went well, so I gave up. He is what he is.

May I ask how your mother seemed to deal with it? I'm glad to hear that you grew up aware of it. My biggest BIGGEST fear is that the boys will think it's the normal way one behaves.

That's going to freak my daughter out...I'd told her that Lee wanted the Gandalf part in LOTR, and she thought he looked far too evil to be Gandalf...she absolutely loves all the Harry Potter books and movie so I'll bet she'll be surprised that he got the role of kindly Dumbledore.

Get the costumes unwrinkled
Set out the candy
Dress the kids (Rebecca is Little Red Riding Hood and Alyson is a little pumpkin!)
Dress myself and get my hubby ready
trick or treat
Bathe the kids, get them in bed
Go to a Halloween party that my hubby's band is playing at
Then FINALLY, go home and get some sleep!
Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone! Watch out for orcs and goblins and Black Riders! :)

I'll bet she'll be surprised that he got the role of kindly Dumbledore. I'm thinking they'll do enough of a make-up job that he won't look too much like Saruman or Count Dooku...
