To: g'nad
why Rosie, I had no idea I was rubbin' off on you...I'm not so sure it's a good thing. ;-) At least I didn't say a rubber HOSE full of sand, though, right? There's still hope for me...

My ancestors (just the Bicknell line) trace their roots back to soldiers who came with William the Conquerer to England. They forced some poor suspecting family out of their home and took it. Their name was morphed from the French to the English Bicknell. Two brothers came to American in 1653. Matthew's son, Samuel, moved to North Carolina where he fought in the Revolutionary War. His son, Linsfield, moved the family to Kentucky. Where this line stayed until the turn of the 20th century when they came to Ohio.

To: g'nad

To: Corin Stormhands

...trace their roots back to soldiers who came with William the Conquerer to England. That's how my Huguenot ancestors got here. They fought with William, then were given a land grant in Virginia.
I have a copy of a letter that the Governor of Virginia wrote back to the king. They put the Huguenots on the outskirts on the James River as a buffer against the Indians. Family name was "Soblet" and Americanized as "Sublett."
I live just off of the extension of "Huguenot Road"...
(seems I do have some of that Calvinist blood after all...)

Ma'am you do a disservice to the graves of the glorious dead...Just watch who you're calling a yankee next time.
To: g'nad
obviously, the ancestors of the nasty ones are still in France... Yeah, that's why I usually reference the English, Scotch-Irish and Cherokee in my ancestry...I'm your basic pound puppy...all mixed together...

Better not let the_doc hear that...
The Bicknell house is still there in England. My brother, who has done 100% of the research (he is quite good at tracking this stuff down) has a picture of it. It is a huge house sitting on a high hill.

At least I didn't say a rubber HOSE full of sand, though, right? There's still hope for me... well, you coulda said an electric cattle prod and a ball pein hammer...
To: Overtaxed; carton253
Just watch who you're calling a yankee next time. Perhaps I erred, but it was in the defense of Miss Margaret Mitchell who is as close to royalty as we southernors get...
To: carton253
Better not let the_doc hear that... Actually I think he has heard that. But he ignores me now.
To: carton253
See, therein lies the difference of someone who has read the book (you) as compared to someone who has only seen the movie (me).
The same thing could be said of those who have only seen LOTR in film, like my husband. He doesn't get the big picture yet. I'm sure by the time he is done with the trilogy, he will be fully under the power of the Ring. LOL!
To: Corin Stormhands
it was in the defense of Miss Margaret Mitchell who is as close to royalty as we southernors get... Those Georgians are pretty uppity for a former penal colony.
To: RMDupree
Well, I thought you described the movie pretty acurately. So, after you read GWTW, give me a freepmail and we can see if you agree with my opinion of the Scarlett/Ashley relationship.
To: All
OK - You guys just keep fightin' the civil war in the Hobbit Hole... We need a new movie to divert our attention! I am off to meeting in town... I am doing a good thing for the pepples this morning. More later!

Scarlett thought the people from Charleston were the stuck-up ones. She thought they were thoroughly irresponsible to fire on that fort and bring the Yankees down on her like a plague of locust.
Rhett Butler was from Charleston. He called Charleston the South but only magnified and more severe.
To: Corin Stormhands
Scotch-Irish...ummm...scotch is a drink, a scot is a person...
I got Scot, Irish, German and Kispoko Shawnee... we're good at massacres involved large, edged weapons
