I'd go for an Oreo Lembas!
To: Overtaxed
No, but around Christmas time they come out with white chocolate covered Oreos. :)

They're from Nabisco!Take that, you snooty Keebler Elves!

Oreos, they're not just for breakfast anymore...

That's the one thing about the digestive biscuit that doesn't fit...they are not really very sweet. Does it actually say in the book that it's sweet? Or are we just imagining it to say that?
I think it would only be very mildly sweet. And now that I've thought about it, I'm sticking with Springerle! Maybe I can bring some to Entmoot.

All that sugar would explain that "energy to keep you going" thing.
To: RosieCotton
If memory serves, it just says "sweet".

The onyl thing I found was that the elves stated:
"The cakes will keep sweet for many many days, if they are unbroken and left in their leaf-wrappings, as we have brought them."
To: Overtaxed
LOL at mental picture of Gimli fighting Orcs with chocolate Oreo crumbs in his beard!
To: RMDupree
"leaf=wrappings" must be the plastic. :)
To: RosieCotton
Gimli says
'Why it is better than the honey-cakes [honey is sweet--2jm]of the Beornings, and that is great praise'
Then the elves say
'The cakes will keep sweet for many many days, if they are unbroken and left in their leaf-wrappings, as we have brought them.'

The Oats & Honey flavor is wrapped in leaflike green.... Hmmmmm.....
These are great by the way, if you haven't tried them....

LOL...we're all over this Lembas thing, aren't we!!?
To: 2Jedismom
I still don't think they're super sweet, just sweet. And I now have a clear picture of what they are. ;-) For this week, anyway. Until someone proves me wrong.

LOL...we're all over this Lembas thing, aren't we!!? Hehehe....I just wanted to know how you went about baking a thin cake that came out crispy without being burnt.
To: Overtaxed
FWIW, one of the recipes I found for Springerle (to keep tooting my own horn!) stated that the Amish folk call them Springerkuchen instead, which is Springer cake. ;-)
To: Overtaxed
Well, all this talk about baking has made me hungry! I'm going to bake some of my lemon Pledge cookies right now! LOL
