AH! A red toothpick Hobbitress! Proud of you!
I'm a pink toothpick myself, like 2JM, but it's so nice to meet people who don't believe in ruining a perfectly good piece of meat by cooking it to a second death! :)

Rare steak is red with a bit of gloss to the meat still, right? I like my steak just to the non-glossy stage. Still very red.

I'm so glad to hear that. Must have been one of those nasty 24 hour stomach bugs.
*shudder*
My eldest got one of those when she was a year old. It was so bad that everyone in my family got it. It was terrible. I'm happy to hear the worst has finally passed.

Would that make Elrond a Calvinist? Ooops. Sorry. Wrong thread...
To: RMDupree
Thanks RM! That coffee is great, and much appreciated!

In my experience, rare steaks are prepared by searing the outer layer of the steak and leaving the inside raw and the center cold.
I'm not THAT brave, so I stick with medium rare. Cooked a couple of layers through, but still juicy and rare, but the inside is warmed.

Rare steak is red with a bit of gloss to the meat still, right? I like my steak just to the non-glossy stage. Still very red.I like it just sort of "sealed" on the outside and still red and juicy on the inside - easier on the grill, I think, since if it's good and hot, it will sear the outside perfectly without "ruining" the inside.
Drool...

I'm glad you like it, Master Dwarf!
But could you PLEASE stop hogging the bacon and pass some this way! :)

I like my steak just to the non-glossy stage. Still very red. Anywhere between raw and burnt will do for me.

That's me. I like it very red...but obviously slightly cooked! My husband does the best using the broiler. He broils sirloin for me now and then. Once not too long ago he broiled me one at 10pm at night!

You're very welcome. Have another cup if you like, there's plenty!
Although, if you want any bacon you'd better hurry. Corin's gone back for thirds already. :)

Now that I've caught up, Good Morning everybody! A beautiful 45 degrees this morning, no frost like yesterday. Our maple tree is just starting to turn.... I live in the D region in the middle right of the image below, so it is just about to peak here....

More Minnesoata updates as events warrant..... Have a great Thursday, All!

drool I know! I think I may have to have a steak for supper! Although never t-bones...sigh...never t-bones.
To: 2Jedismom
Although never t-bones...sigh...never t-bones. Same here...can never bring myself to pay for one.
But they are good!
To: RosieCotton
Ok, I'm off to watch the pooch. I'll log in online at their house.
To: 2Jedismom
Want one for the road?
To: RosieCotton
Isn't it horrible! I always stop at the freezer case and sigh.
That is one of the lovely things about the Hobbit Hole. Even though certain trolls scorn our fantasy world, I bet ol' Destructor would just love one of these steaks!! HAHAHAHHA!

How do you go about smoking things on a grill?
Be gentle, I'm still a bbq newbie....
