It's like asking for a "coke" in the south. You'll usually get asked "what kind?"Ah...the great carbonated soft drink debate! I grew up calling it "pop" due to my parents being from the Midwest, then was ridiculed and learned to call it soda, but I've worked with plenty of people who call it "coke" and a few MA folks who call it TONIC!! To me, tonic sounds like medicine or hair treatment, not something I wanna drink!
Now I call it soda most of the time, or pop when hanging out with family.

To me, tonic sounds like medicine or hair treatment, not something I wanna drink! Depends on your "mixers"...

It's like asking for a "coke" in the south. You'll usually get asked "what kind?" Around here they take it to mean brand name "Coke". If they do only Pepsi, they'll ask if Pepsi is okay. Come to think of it....I always ask by brand names.

Pretty much the same here too. I think the "coke" expression is deeper south...

We always asked for "Pepsi" in NH.
Of course now that I'm in Florida my favorite kind of coke is Pepsi. ;^)

Pretty much the same here tooThe generic name for carbonated non-alcoholic beverages is "soft drink." Of course I just settle for carbonated water.

Speaking of pop, is anyone else a Vernor's fan? We can't get it here, and I'm badly addicted! Life is SO not fair...
Dad has a friend who used to drive out to Michigan every year to visit family, and he would bring back a few cases every time. Now he either doesn't travel or flies. My brother sent us some from CA last year, but it was expensive due to being so heavy.

Speaking of pop, is anyone else a Vernor's fan? I went to school in Kentucky. The Michigan kids would always bring back Vernor's from home. It was a treat because you couldn't get it anywhere else. Kind of like "Cheerwine" in North Carolina.
But I don't really care for either.
To: RosieCotton
Never heard of "Vernor's".

here (if the link works right!) is some info. I agree with the last sentence!
What's Cheerwine? I've never heard of it. I think the only soft drink we have here that might not be available everywhere is "Moxie", but if anyone actually drinks it, I'd be surprised. That stuff IS tonic. Or worse. Truly, truly nasty.

Looks like a Schwepp's can.

Drool....
You KNOW that's torture, right?
We had an employee visit from Michigan yesterday and I updated some stuff on his laptop. I told him as payment he must bring me a few cans next time he visit. Don't know if I'll actually get it, though.
