Gandalf (Ian) has the most EXPRESSIVE eyes....there are a couple of times in the movie when his shifts his gaze ever so slightly and completely changes the mood of the scene...one time is after he pulls the ring out of the fire and hands it to Frodo...he asks him if there are any markings on it........at first Frodo says no. Gandalf looks confused and a bit discouraged.............then when Frodo says "Wait!!!", Gandalf darts his eyes and his whole expression becomes one of intense anticipation.........one of my (many) favorite moments in the film.

I love when he does things like that when Gandalf is in the background, too. Watch his face when Bilbo haltingly begins to admit the ring is not on the mantlepiece, but rather in his pocket--his entire expression shows Gandalf's growing dread that the ring might be more dangerous than any of them had imagined.

I think there is little doubt that McKellan is one of the great actors of this generation. If only . . .

Lembas like a cookie? Funny - I always pictured lembas looking like little square-cut cornbread. - and yellow.

I'd always pictured them looking like bakhlava, although maybe not quite so gooey.

...made of a meal that was baked a light brown on the outside, and inside was the colour of cream.

No wonder they were able to last so long, they were Twinkies! ;^)

I have only seen the TT trailer once. Did anybody else think there was a remarkable similarity between Aragorn at Helm's Deep, with the arrows flying all around, and Elrond at the Battle of the Last Alliance at the beginning of FOTR?

Good morning, my hole-dwelling friends! I'm sitting here with a three-year-old munching a granola bar on my lap, waiting for the coffee to drip enough out for a cup!

Someone in the chat last night told me the name of the person that painstakingly recreated Christopher Tolkien's maps in the books published by Houghton Mifflin. I think the last name was Law. Could you give me that name again?

Actually, I did notice that in passing the last time I saw the preview in the theater. I wonder if we are supposed to be reminded of that. It is almost the same situation as the Last Alliance from the prologue, it would not surprise me if we are supposed to connect the two...

That was me. It was Stephan Raw who redrew the maps following the originals.

But then again, arrows flying through the air in a Middle Earth battle would be fairly routine. :)

Good Morning! How goes the battle? I haven't had much time to peruse the news threads yet.

Good Morning Hobbits!

So if I have gathered the news of the day, Lembas is in fact Hostess Twinkies, a lurker with an interesting name has introduced himself and LCS is still venturing out alone into evil places where the bad people are. HairOfTheDog is still delinquent on the Green Dragon and now might as well wait till Friday morning, 2JM is still looking for an adequate map and has a slow coffee pot, and ksen has only seen the preview for TTT once and evidently needs to find a download.

Have I got everything? Hullo! Good Morning! I am off to Seattle shortly - hope to check in later on!.

I love Seattle! But this lurker with the interesting name is on the right coast.

Corin Stormhands is my Dwarven Middle-Earth name.

Hmmm....Dwarf.... Would you be interested in a little Elf-bashing? If we get Carton over here we can gang up on the little snoots.
