I like him too! (for more reasons than you have) He is awfully handy to have around! I wonder if they will ever listen to his premonitions... The dude knows when trouble is coming!

Well, so now you are just yanking my chain for cheap entertainment? [snif!]

Green-Elf!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, he has great vision.... He and Gimli become great friends... I would love to see an account of their wanderings post-LOTR (you know, where Gimli was going to show him the great caves of Argothrond or something and Legolas was going to take him to Mirkwood, etc...) Too bad JRR never got around to writing that....
To: HairOfTheDog
I would never do that!
Gosh, now I feel just terrible....
;)

I dunno... I was kinda hoping they abandoned those plans, found themselves some wives, and settled down. I mean - hunting and carousing with the boys is all well and good, but eventually.... oh nevermind. A hobbit lass like me doesn't stand a chance anyhow...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I am sure you do!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes I do, see?

Y'all are testing my memory of the books today... JRRT did write about some of what the remaining members of the Fellowship did in one of the Appendices to ROTK. IIRC, Gimli and Legolas did go to the Glimmering Caves at Helm's Deep, and to Mirkwood as well. Gimli brought Dwarves from the Lonely Mountain down to Gondor to help re-make Minas Tirith. And, eventually, Legolas built a grey boat and sailed into the West. It's not certain, but he may have taken Gimli with him.

Cool! Well I haven't read those yet, but I intend to. Thanks for the info, Bear. I have Read the Hobbit 3 times, LOTR 3 times, and I'm currently reading the Sil for the second time. I have the Book of Lost Tales, volumes 1 and 2 but haven't read them yet.

What is IIRC?

I am a bit disturbed by the brain-control devices that the UN has installed on the side of everyone's head. They aren't even well hidden. I would think they could come up with something a little more subtle!

I have the Book of Lost Tales, volumes 1 and 2 but haven't read them yet. I have those as well! I found them hard to read the first time (many years ago). But when I tried them again after seeing the movie I found it a lot easier! I think you need to have a deep interest in JRRT's writing to take those on. I'm currently finishing up the History of Middle-Earth vol. 4, "The Shaping of Middle-Earth". Lots of interesting history showing how the mythology changed and developed.
The Appendices in Return of the King have a lot of interesting stuff as well, like the Tale of Years, explaining who had which ring, what happened to Aragorn and Arwen, Sam, Merry & Pippin, etc.

IIRC = "If I Recall Correctly" :)

Highly sophisticated tinfoil.

LOL! I thought it was an abbreviation of another Tolkien work and I was racking my brain....

My mother is a big Tolkien fan and gave me her copies of the Lost Tales, and said the same thing about them, that they are rather involved and heavy wading... So I'm saving them for later...

Creep. He's right, it SHOULD have "ended that day", but he was too much of a sissy to DO anything other than yell and stamp his pointy shoed foot.
Welcome to the ranks of ElfBashers!
To: Overtaxed
it SHOULD have "ended that day", If it had ended that day, we wouldn't have the rest of the story, though, right?;^)

Darn it, I was trying to find a picture of a Brain Slug from
Futurama, but I couldn't find one!
It would have been perfect!
