No problem! She's not just a pretty face, either - a fantastic musician and performer. I'm about the only one in my family who hasn't had a chance to see her live. :-(
I will probably see Eileen Ivers in a few weeks, though! (Warning - her website immediately starts playing music!) I'm not sure how much I'll like it since I know her music is rather pop influenced, but we'll see...
The Kia/DVD deal
8/20/02, 12:53 pm EST - Tehanu
Some Kia dealerships got so clogged with LOTR fans test-driving Kias in order to get their free DVD that they've taken to giving them away rather than go through the hassle of giving test-drives to people who aren't really interested. Ringer Brian, who got his DVD from them (there's a 2-week wait) said "Bad news, it's the FULL-screen version." [whoops, had to change that - I misquoted him originally.-T]
I've been working on Cliffs of Moher, which is gorgeous but in a hardish key with plenty of high notes...and my high notes need work! One thing that's trick about the fiddle compared to anything else I've ever played is that there are no stops for an accurate note...on the whistle, if you cover three holes, you get G or whatever...on the mandolin and guitar there are frets. No such luck on the fiddle! It does mean you can do cool slides and such, but it's hard to play in tune.
I found it, I think. The second part looks very tricky, especially rhythmically! That's where I always get stuck with sheet music...if I listen to a song a couple of times I can get the counting down and then just pay attention to note positions instead of having to count, but I HATE counting right from sheet music.
That was one of the things that made me dislike music lessons when I was little - I detested going over music counting one-ee-and-a-two-ee for dinky little notes!
I have a question to those who already have their DVD's. Is the TT trailer on them anywhere?
If you find one, make sure you ping Rose in RoseBear to it, she'd probably like to see it.
On second thought, forget I said anything.
