At least he doesn't smell.

That was the line that really cracked me up.

And the next time we watched the movie after that, we got to about three quarters of the way through it (when everyone else was starting to look rather grimy) and someone quoted that line.

For Marx Brothers movies, far and away my favorite is Monkey Business. Those guys seem like they were leftists like Hollywood people often seem to be, but they had brains, unlike alot of today's stars (seem not to have). They could ad lib and were really funny. Sometimes you get the feeling that alot of the movie dialogue was just made up as they went along. Groucho was the funniest, I guess.

I like Night in Casablanca also, my daughter found a copy of that one for me.

Didn't you like Cocoanuts?

I didn't remember that one. I've only seen it once, so I didn't think that would qualify as a "favorite."

Here's a couple more:
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Once Upon a Time in China
Once Upon a Time in China II

You don't see comedies like Marx Brothers comedies anymore. Those movies consistently make me cry laughing whenever I watch them.

The interactions between Groucho and Chico usually do it to me every time.

I don't remember Monky Business. I'll have to see if I can find a copy somewhere so I can rent it.

Which is the one where Groucho talks about building a house? Is that Monkey Business?

I like Night at the Opera, too...the scene on the ship where more and more keep showing up at Groucho's cabin is classic.

That's an interesting list! Hong Kong action fan, huh?

"Duck Soup" is my favorite Marx Bros. movie.

Yeah, since about 1986. I had a friend from high school who is in the comics business he was really into manga and Honk Kong films. Whenever he came home from college he would have a batch of new movies. We'd watch them and he let me borrow some.

If you're into manga, my friend does the American version of The Dirty Pair.

Monkey Business is the one where they are stowaways on an ocean liner from Europe to New York.

They have their usual hilarious time puncturing the affectations of high society + the scene where they attempt to clear customs in New York is hilarious. They try to get through by pretending to be Maurice Chevalier, so you get to actually see all four of them doing Maurice Chevalier impressions. One of my favorite movies, I think.

Very cool! I've probably seen some of his work, although I'm not heavily into manga. About the only manga I really get into is the American translation of Lone Wolf and Cub.

I should have added that he's talking to Margaret Dummond at the time. :))

Wasn't that A Night at the Opera? They tie up these famous Russian pilots who were on their way to America for some award presentation. Isn't that the one with the famous "state room" scene where Groucho manages to squish about 40 people into his little room on the ship?

Good thought. I like the elves just fine, esp. Blanchett, but sometimes you do make the bashing look like fun.

Do you know if that rumour proved out that suggested Haldir will be at Helm's Deep with a detachment of elves?

No, those scenes aren't in it. That's a whole different one that I'm not as familiar with. In Monkey Business they also get involved with some Mafia types while on board ship.

Dunno for sure. But from the previews it looks like there are a bunch of Elf archers there.
