Tom Hanks is more like the dorky everyman I seem to have the best shot at... And he probably still has that houseboat in Seattle, you'll just have to get rid of Meg...

Dirty Dancing was filmed near my hometown!

Man! Everyone keeps bringing up other great movies! Pride and Prejudice (the BBC series) is wonderful, as I've mentioned before. I dare ANY woman to watch it and not fall in love with Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) by the end of the series.
I like the Matrix, too. Also The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs.

Cool. Pretty country in the background. Makes me wish I could to and escape in the mountains there.

I thought about putting Citizen Kane down, but I didn't watch it the last time it was on. :) Rosebud

Which Pride and Prejudice are you talking about? I liked the one that was on A&E a few years back....almost exactly like the book.

I dare ANY woman to watch it and not fall in love with Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) by the end of the series. Heyyy....that's a series, not a movie!
To: Overtaxed
That's the one I'm referring to...they even used dialog directly from the book, in the proper sort of language. Some people I've talked to compained that it made it too hard to understand, but I think it's marvelous.
A friend of mine has it on VHS, but I'm seriously thinking of buying it on DVD. Not that there are any extras, so far as I know, but it would save me borrowing it all the time. ;-)

Everyone keeps bringing up other great movies! Yeah, I'm pretty well convinced I can't keep my list under 10...

Heyyy....that's a series, not a movie!OK...so I cheated! It's still one of my favorite films...

Gee...I wonder if I should post my favorite fliks...
To: Corin Stormhands
I'll miss the quadruple precious unless we post a lot in the next 36 hours... Actually, at the rate of 500/day, it's not impossible that we'll get there before you leave...

Pretty country in the background. Makes me wish I could to and escape in the mountains there. Most of it was filmed in Giles County, VA. The resort is there at Mountain Lake. Some was filmed in North Carolina, and it's all supposed to look like the Catskills!
Mountain Lake Hotel
The Lake is springfed and is one of two natural freshwater lakes in Virginia. And is the highest in elevation East of the Mississippi.
But, (and this is apparently unrelated to the drought), the Lake is draining. Historical research indicates that this naturally occurs every 100-200 years. So the engineers are attempting to figure out how to deal with it. The resort couldn't stay open if the Lake goes away.

Gee...I wonder if I should post my favorite fliks... Well, okay, but nothing on the list that requires quarters...

Time to get off the computer for a while...Matthew needs it. See you later.

My husband likes Pride and Prejudice too. I just love the way the actors convey so much with just their expressions. We own the DVD set and watch it an average of about 2-3 times a month. Can't get enough of it. I agree with you about Colin Firth though. Did you know that Jennifer Elhe (sp?) is in an upcoming movie called "Passions"? Not really a movie I would go see though. I wish she would be in another good movie like Pride and Prejudice.

Hmm, favorite movies... well, here are some modern ones that never fail to catch my attention...
LOTR: FOTR (naturally)
The Matrix
The Iron Giant
Forrest Gump
The Terminator/Terminator 2 (watch them back to back and see Sarah Connor change from a frightened mouse into a human terminator)
Aliens (that's the second one)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Older ones that I like a lot...
Elmer Gantry
Sgt. York
High Noon
Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
Once Upon a Time in the West
Gosh, the list could go on and on, but those are some right off the top of my head...
To: Corin Stormhands
, I'm pretty well convinced I can't keep my list under 10... I realized I didn't mention any Alfred Hitchcock! How about North by Northwest, Rear Window, The Birds, Vertigo, Psycho....
To: g'nad
Gee...I wonder if I should post my favorite fliks... I'd like to see your list! I know I felt a little out of place, since most of my favorites are less than 50 years old... ;)
To: Overtaxed
Rear Window...You know, this movie scared me worse that Psycho ever did. The part near the end when the neighbor is coming at him and he has NO WAY TO ESCAPE...I would leave the room during that part.
