who if not Viggo should be Aragon?

Well, in an indirect way I agreed with WTRF about using a James Bond actor...only he suggested Timothy Dalton...and the best image that has always come up in MY mind was either Sean Connery as he looked when he played Agamemnon in "Time Bandits" (he looked VERY kingly then!) or at least someone who didn't have a broken nose and look like a refugee from a Native American casting list. Regardless of features, I had always imagined a rugged type face, to the point of severe scruffiness, with dark hair and dark eyes...and MAYBE a mustache....but I've never been fond of mustaches.

Elijah Wood was SPOT ON for Frodo. I am SO glad that role didnt go to Stuart Townsend...I heard he left the production as Aragorn all in a snit because he wanted to be Frodo.

Bet he's kicking himself now. Doesn't matter. I couldn't have even envisioned him as Aragorn. Too pretty.

Ever notice right after they leave Bree, in the movie, during the part where Merry is talking with Frodo about not trusting Aragorn the scene cuts to Strider placing his hand on a lichen covered rock or tree. When he's there he crinkles his nose, think the wind blew back on him for a sec?

No darlin' THAT is the refugee of a Native American casting call.

Viggo won my heart and he'll always be Aragorn from now on.

I had heard about Stuart Townsend, but didn't know who he was and hadn't seen any pictures. I just did a search and found some. He would have been TOTALLY wrong! Way too young, for one thing. I'm glad that didn't go through!

Hm. Tough question. To be honest I can't bring anyone to mind, partly because I had such a strong image of him from the books that it's hard to just pick a real person to match up. Not to mention you have to have the voice, too. I like this guy:

(Colin Firth), but I'm not sure he could have played a tough guy like Aragorn. (He was a WONDERFUL Mr. Darcy, though, for fans of Pride and Prejudice).

Honestly, I don't really keep track of actors, so I'm not good at picking 'em.

I'm glad too, I couldn't picture him as Frodo OR Aragorn, besides Aragorn doesn't use an axe..............what?.........STUART Townshend? Oh, nevermind.

I thought about him, too! But I think Aragorn should have a beard, and I've never seen him with one. Maybe I just haven't gotten out much, though...

Actually, Gibson could've done a great job. But I think the star power would've ruined things...you know:

"See Mel Gibson in The Lord of the Rings" as opposed to -

"See J.R.R.Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings"...

OH MAN another good one...but I agree...I think he is closer to a Frodo type character than an Aragorn...Colin Firth...YUM...and I love Pride and Prejudice!

I agree. The casting people did an outstanding job. They picked people who were known, but not so well known as to overshadow the whole project.

I don't think so, this one looks fair, but feels foul.

Ok, I'm outta here for now. I've got a deacon's meeting tonight, I'll try to check in after it's over.
