I went back to Gandalf on Orthanc. It doesn't subtitle what he says to Mothra.
To: Overtaxed
The script says that he says:
Gandalf: < whispering > Gwaihir. Go, Gwaihir.
BUT, I remember reading in that Q&A section of McKellan's website, that someone asked him what he said, and he said it was gibberish.
Did you ever see the words to the song Legolas was too wracked with grief to repeat? I haven't, and since he wouldn't tell, I will:
A Lament for Gandalf
A Olorin i yaresse (Olorin, who once was...)
Mentaner i Numeherui (Sent by the Lords of the West)
Tirien i Romenori (to guard the lands of the East)
Maiarion i Oiosaila (Wisest of all Maiar)
Mana elye etevanne (What drove you to leave)
Norie i melanelye? (That which you loved?)
Mithrandir Mithrandir, A Randir Vithren (Mithrandir, Mithrandir O Pilgrim Grey)
u-renianthach i amar galen
(No more will you wander in the green fields of this earth)
I reniad lin ne mor, nuithannen
(Your journey has ended in darkness)
In gwidh ristennin i fae narchannen
(The bonds cut, the spirit broken)
I lach Anor ed ardhon gwannen
(The flame of Anor has left this world)
Caled veleg, ethuiannen. (A great light, has gone out.)

I caught the Gwahir part....I was just wondering what the whispering was. :)
The Lament for Gandalf isn't in the book, is it? The only verse about Gandalf in the Lothlorien part is the one Frodo made up.
To: Overtaxed
You are right about that... The lyrics were written for the film... Tolkien didn't tell us what the song was about, but he did tell us that Legolas wouldn't talk about it!
Now as the companions sat or walked together they spoke of Gandalf, and all that each had known and seen of him came clear before their minds. As they were healed of hurt and weariness of body the grief of their loss grew more keen. Often they heard nearby Elvish voices singing, and knew that they were making songs of lamentation for his fall, for they caught his name among the sweet sad words that they could not understand. Mithrandir, Mithrandir sang the Elves, O Pilgrim Grey! For so they loved to call him. But if Legolas was with the Company, he would not interpret the songs for them, saying that he had not the skill, and that for him the grief was still too near, a matter for tears and not yet for song.

Playing with the buttons on my DVD player remote, which is new, I noticed that I have "zoom" settings available which might make for a nice compromise between the "wide" screen and the "full" screen.... I can choose 2X - which expands it out to within an inch (top and bottom) of the full screen on my TV, or 4X which zooms it in even closer. I don't notice a loss of resolution, the picture is still clear at both settings, depending on how much I might be willing to lose on the sides... I am so far quite happy with 2X...
I don't know what buttons are common to these contraptions, so I wondered if you guys can do this too...

Speaking of cool things... I just found out about this cool tool you can download from Microsoft...
When I am posting stuff from other Web-pages, I have been doing the Right-click-view-source trick and copying and pasting the source code to make it appear as it did on the source page. Usually the code I want is buried beneath thousands of lines of other code, and I would find the right part by doing a "find on page" search for the article title in the source code.
All that is a hassle, BUT, sometimes easier than reformatting it if I were to just cut and paste, and it comes out so nice...
Trouble is, sometimes you get some of the other stuff off the page too, like ads and menus and stuff, and one either has to live with it, or hunt for the parts of the code one doesn't want within the post.
Here is a tool that Solves it! - It was posted just now on another thread by Howlin, but the source of it is HERE I used it just now to copy the info below:

so I wondered if you guys can do this tooYes, our player can zoom up to 4x as well. We also like playing with the slow-motion features to see things that pass by quickly.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I haven't played with those buttons yet ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog; Bear_in_RoseBear
I keep pushing the wrong buttons.
To: Overtaxed
HAHAHA - I keep pushing buttons that don't appear to do anything.... like "Angle" - What does that do?
To: HairOfTheDog
Don't ask me! I'll give the zoom a go tomorrow. However I did connect the DVD to the VCR whose signal is split between 2 TV's. So now I can watch The Movie in the kitchen.
To: Overtaxed
I just drug out the manual... dagnabbit... I used to be smart enough to figure this stuff out.
To: HairOfTheDog
That's really bad....having to resort to the manual. :)

Has anyone else experienced a brief "freeze" on the DVD at the very end of the Council of Elrond scene, right after Pippin says, "So, where are we going?" Should I be returning my copy for a replacement, do you think? (I checked this problem two or three times).
To: HairOfTheDog
I keep pushing buttons that don't appear to do anything. Not all of the special features are supported by all DVDs; and some only work when viewing the "add-ons". For instance, our copy of the Unbreakable DVD offers a special feature called "anatomy of a scene". You can watch a scene from the movie, or switch to a storyboard layout of the scene, or watch both at the same time (split screen, one over the other). IIRC, the "angle" button is used to switch between the views in this feature. I think different DVDs use this feature in different ways.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm listening to the Celtic channel on Spinner.com. They played an instrumental piece by Enya called "Lothlorien". It's on the album
Shepherd Moons if you want to listen to a sample. You have to scroll down the page a bit.
To: HairOfTheDog

LOL! "RTFM!"
To: Rocko
Has anyone else experienced a brief "freeze" on the DVD at the very end of the Council of Elrond scene, right after Pippin says, "So, where are we going?" Yes! Right before the scene with Frodo, Bilbo, and Sting.
To: Rocko; Bear_in_RoseBear
hehehe - my movie happened to be approaching that spot, and mine does not hang at all there....
Bear, thanks for explaining that feature... - So we don't have an "angle" option! That should simplify my life at this point!
To: Overtaxed
A pity, isn't it?
