Prudence is always a good idea

Exactly so. Normally, we don't worry about it. We've never been subjected to anything more overt than stares, and not that very often for 13 years together. But it's something I keep in the back of my mind.

OK - The movie is over. Maybe I should have paid it more than half attention, was distracted... It was good film. I have it for five days, so maybe I will watch it again.

Tell me why it is again, that a copy of FoTR that I have paid for, sitting in a box across town because of some roooools? To whose benefit are these roooooools written?

Ended up being a complicated sucker, didn't it? Starts out like a leftist anti-American fantasy, then shows that this sort of thing is truly an insane fantasy [SPOILER ALERT] The stalwart devotion of the family shows you that Opie still remembers his roots, too. Heck, even for the Hollywood types, a film had to have quality to beat Fellowship.

LOL!

Maybe by '04 we'll be able to clean the place up enough for guests!

I think that most areas of the Deep South (outside of the back woods) are finally over that sort of crap!

I think we're over the overt activity. But the attitudes still exist, on both sides. (Try living in the Capital of the Confederacy). I worked a campaign ticket back in the 80s where one of our candidates was running against an African American gentleman. Our candidate actually said in an interview "I understood the principles of massive resistance..."

Even though he was "our" guy, after a stupid statement like that he deserved to lose.

I must admit I appreciate my southern heritage, but I know there was a lot of ugly there too. I am a legitimate Son of the Confederacy and I'm fascinated by that history and have attempted to find out more of my family. But I've never joined the organization. It's one thing to respect the past, which I do. But I don't want to live in it.

He said, "oh - so you rent a lot of movies then?"
I said, "No... the same one."

I did actually laugh outloud when I read that! You'd think my family would worry about me...fortunately, they either don't care that much about me or want to go with me!

We need it! Of course, by '04 maybe we'll have a new place and can leave the old mess behind...

Sure - that works... I have from time to time proposed ditching both all my laundry and all my dishes, and just buying new!

I'm doing that with my towels. Maybe tomorrow. They are worthless and I can see through them. I've had them since we were married (almost 11 years) and it's time for them to go!

It's why all I wanted for Mother's Day was a pink towel, washclothe and hand towel!

I was talking to my friend.. about what I would like the DVD player to do... and I said I would like to be able to capture screen caps and be able to save them to my computer.

She said... "We don't think the same. Why would you want to do that?"

heehehe - Mine are old too... hand-me-down towels.

I keep taking the worst looking ones out to the barn for horse towels. I only have a few left that pass muster! - I need to buy some new ones or lower my standards!

But then I just live like a bachelor anyway...

We don't want to go to Austin, do we? It was the only county in Texas that voted for Gore!

Tulsa is a lot like Austin...just conservative! And they have all kinds of live music...we could go to the PAC!

I sound like a person trying to get a convention to come here!

Dom gives some pretty good spoilers here. http://www.iansmith.co.uk/lotr/August3.htm

Here's a little bit:

The last question asked was about Dom's favourite scene in all three movies. "I don't want to spoil it but Merry's main link is Pippin. In the third movie they go their separate ways, which is quite sad. The pinnacle of Merry is when he finally comes back again and sees Pippin. If they had been together they would have been OK. But because they've been split up they're both heavily traumatised. When they meet they don't recognise each other. Pippin has to explain who he is and Merry needs his friend from The Shire to bring him back. And they're both men now and they hug and kiss. It's beautiful"

Interesting quote. I have always thought that the separation of Merry and Pippin, and their very different experiences in Rohan and Gondor, brought them a new maturity and individuality only symbolized by their increased stature.
