I don't think that people were arguing that these cases shouldn't be covered. The question was, why the national media scrutiny all of a sudden? Especially if, as 2JM's link points out, child abductions are actually down.

I live in Florida what good would it do to notify someone in Alaska if a kid was abducted from my neighborhood? It wouldn't do any real good, so what is the media's motivation for all of a sudden becoming so vocal about these terrible crimes?

If there is a debate about the coverage of the new abduction, I for one, can understand why. I would not flame those that are grumbling about it, because they are not grumbling because they don't think it is sad. They are probably grumbling because they simply can't care.

We should not have our hearts jerked around by story after story after story of innocent child after innocent child missing on the other side of the country, when there is absolutely nothing we can do about it but wait for the news that a small battered body has been found in a swamp. I don't have enough heart to have it broken over and over again. I cannot personally grieve for every single tragedy in this country. None of us can. It will drive us mad.

Chapter 1: The Departure of Boromir
Chapter 2: The Riders of Rohan

Because, the Departure of Boromir is first, really short - 7 pages. Also because we have already talked about Boromir's fall so much because PJ moved it into FoTR....

The Riders of Rohan is a good long chapter with new material in it.
