I forgot. Yes, I did read some of that alternate history. My favorite was the one where the Confederacy was provided with AK-47's. I thought they were well written, but I still much prefer Niven and his collaborators.
I remember that one of Niven's books described a ship defending itself against laser attack by generating a mirror surface. I wonder if that would work.
Thanks for the link.

High on a hill lived a lonely dwarfherd...????
To: Corin Stormhands

Been watchin the Trafficant wreck! - and doin' the work I didn't do today, that needs to be done tomorrow!
To: Corin Stormhands
Yes, that's who it was.
To: Sam Cree
Turtledove has several "alternate history" series. The "Worldwar" series features alien lizards arriving to conquer Earth in 1940. Expecting to go up against the sword-wielding barbarians their scouts observed 1000 years earlier, the aliens get a nasty surprise!
a ship defending itself against laser attack by generating a mirror surface.
Yes, I think it would work, depending on the efficiency of the mirror and the power of the laser. It would depend on whether the mirror could reflect enough of the laser's energy, before absorbing enough heat to melt.
Thanks for the link.
You're welcome!

Was that Harry Turtledove? Yes, Guns of the South was the title, I think.
Good evening! Home from the practice?
To: HairOfTheDog
Been watchin the Trafficant wreck! Watched it here too. Disappointed, but not surprised, that he didn't point fingers and name names.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
He is mad as a hatter!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; Sam Cree
Yes, Guns of the South was the title, I think. I've read Guns of the South. I tried another one of his books though and couldn't quite get into it. Maybe I should try again...

Well, I'm one tired dwarf. I think I'll head off to bed...
G'nite all. See you tomorrow.
To: Corin Stormhands
Good night! Sleep well...
28?

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." -- the Cheshire Cat, Alice in Wonderland
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
We are all mad. I predict more noise from in in the next few days... But I sort of wonder if he will never make it to jail. I see a man self-destructing.
Was the one vote in his favor his own? - Is he allowed to vote?
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah, I'll admit he sounded a little "out there".
He was allowed to vote... he voted "present". The one "no" vote was from Condit! See the vote total here!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
HaHaHa!Why on earth would Condit put himself out there like that?
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm not sure I could even guess... maybe he's afraid he'll face an expulsion vote soon, and he was hoping to improve his karma?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
He could have been invisible. no one would have noticed a yes. I have stopped thinking about him.
You just can't make this up!
To: HairOfTheDog
Agreed! Condit's "no" vote was even more surprising to me than Trafficant not voting "no".
To: HairOfTheDog
By the way, I noticed someone's been adding to the keyword list again.
