Perhaps now that this piece caught your interest, you might go back and reconsider his past writings - a gold mine IMHO.

I’ve had changes of mind like that several times. For example, I didn’t care much for Elton John’s music - maybe because I’m ‘homophobic’ - then, around 2010, I saw a rerun of the movie Almost Famous (2000), and was utterly blown away by Tiny Dancer (1970), nearly 40 years after its release. Since then, I hear anything by Elton John with completely different ears.

As an Army Officer, I was taught to disobey illegal orders; and that disobeying any order is a dangerous proposition. The definitions of illegal orders were reasonably clear, applying them to particular situations is a difficult and thorny proposition.

Anyone who disobeys an order should be prepared to go to court at the minimum. One of the first tests, which is used a fair amount of the time, is to be asked to be given the order in writing.
