Video of the aircraft on takeoff showing flaming engine.
The engine fell off. That same engine had maintenance done on it, delaying the flight by two hours.
NTSB will likely be having a long talk with the maintenance team

Agreed!
It wasn't an article.
It was a post from Nick Sortor on X.
He states the original information came from the mayor, who misspoke.
The speed at which breaking information happens on X, coupled with a local politician who (according to Sortor) misspoke, it's not difficult to see how gal./lbs jet fuel might get confused. Not the first time, won't be the last time.
Sortor posted his correction less than an hour later. Not sure how quickly the major announced their correction.
It wasn't a news outlet.
It was a post on X that says the origin of that gal/lbs mix-up came from the mayor during an early press conference. The information was corrected less than an hour later.
For reference:
UPS cargo maintenance employee, Joe Schmo: “Hey, any of you guys seen my 1” Snap-Off box wrench?”
NTSB Investigator: “We found this 1” Snap-Off box wrench on the runway, not far from where the number 1 inlet cowling impacted.”
Reminds me of the May 25, 1979 crash of AA Flight 191, at Chicago’s O’Hare Int Airport. Damn near identical scenario where the number one engine separated from the wing. MX crews were using a forklift to mate the engine to the pylon. They overstressed and cracked to engine mount bolts.
I witnessed some geniuses doing the same thing on a B-707 cargo conversion, in 1986, at Batch Air in Miami. These Cuban idiots had the engine pylon resting on some wood planks that were laid atop a 10’ step ladder, while the engine was being overhauled!
I knew that a ref to DEI would throw you off even though I acknowledged that it’s timeframe was totally inapt, but you were going there. Capisce ?
