ISWYDT…LOL!!!
Way not true. I design microcontroller based electronics and the write the software for them in support of mechanical engineers, chemists, geologists, and biologists. We always have a blast.
I started out in physics and math, then switched to Computer Science. My emphasis in CS was the computer itself: its electronics and the operating systems. The physics background helps a great deal when working with the other disciplines.
The boost into multi-disciplinary work is reading. I read about their problems before I begin working on a solution.
Lest I forget, the unsung geniuses are the machinists.
Gotta wonder. When I graduated and was interviewing, sometimes I met some real losers who were doing the hiring. Of COURSE would not have me (a college grad) working for them!
It was awful!!
Foreigners need to get "advanced" degrees because the degree from their home country is a fraud and won't get them into the field. Their degree from a U.S. institution is their starting point.
And I had a couple of stupids - got rid of them
You were also in charge of hiring and firing?!

Nope. Simply explained and showed my bosses why the fool needed to be moved to a place where they (theoretically) could do no harm. Takes a while but got it done.

Yeah True. I worked with a lot of “green” engineers - all they have is what was pounded into their heads in school.
What you missed is “The smart ones catch on pretty quick, the stupid ones never do.” Give the new kids a year or two experience / seasoning, help them along, and most of them do just fine - they can talk to each other and look outside that little box they got from school.
I also worked with a fair amount of seasoned, smart engineers, some “scary” smart. One was an electrical and mechanical engineer. He was a Hoot - no reverence for sacred cows or BS. Had some Howling Good Times with him.
Y’All take care.
