Interesting, news from Nigeria. I ran into a Nigerian girl at a hotel a few weeks back. She was impressively friendly, polite and very well dressed.

USA - pushes STEM, then replaces them with lower-wage Indians.

I wonder if she was the one who tried to scam my elderly mother out of her savings last year. My mom said she seemed really nice too.

About 40 years ago, my parents and I rented our basement apartment to two students from Sri Lanka. They were studying engineering at North Dakota State University-GO BISON!

As I recall they tested out of the first two years of calculus as first year students in one of the engineering programs.

“OK, so much for quantity. Now, about the quality of these graduates....”

Since our kids are mostly ‘educated’ in our public schools probably best to not ask about quality.

But are they good STEM graduates? Cuba used to produce a lot of medical “doctors” that were dangerously incompetent. India used to graduate “software engineers” who had never read textbooks nor used actual computers...

Not for long. School districts are getting rid of stem because not enough targeted, desired minorities are in it, so their solution is to stop offering it for students.

The problem, in our case, is that young Americans are aware that they have very little chance in the STEM work field as a career, since Indians and Chinese are the ones that are being hired (instead of Americans).
So, they don’t even bother studying in the STEM fields.

In answer to your comment, no, she’s not likely the one. I met her in Bismarck, ND. I have no idea what she was doing there.

But on second thought, the girl was charming. Charm is a key characteristic of many scammers.

I am so jealous you can pick off varmints from your living room window! I would have to use a pellet gun for squirrels, since even a 22 short round would cause apoplexy in the whole neighborhood!

“USA - pushes STEM, then replaces them with lower-wage Indians.”

And gives the Indians a much cheaper deal for the degrees...

The United States produces around 820,000 STEM graduates a year, making up about 20 per cent of all degrees awarded.

Probably 750,000 of the STEM graduates are from China and India thanks to a generous supply of student visas.
