Remember the scene from Miss Congeniality where Gracie gets upset seeing a gun but was told!;This is Texas.Even my hairdresser has gun
Well a this is Utah. Everyone hunts.
I have learned to have great respect for wildlife photographers. Animals move. They don’t care if you get your shot or not.
Most of mine go in the trash. Still, I keep trying.
I enjoy viewing each year’s contest-results for best wildlife photography. Hope your work gets included soon.
I keep seeing these things so I will respond again.
Get google maps, sat view and measure it.
140 yards max. I dont know where 200 got started, but 140 is what I measured.
Thank you, but it won’t be included. I am a total amateur. None of my work is even remotely in the realm of the people who submit their photography.
Not yet, anyway....
Oddly the most important thing is a stable rest for your shot. With such a scoped weapon in a good rifle will make great shots to 300 yards. I can do a 300 yard shot with an M1-Garand with no scope to center of mass with ease. A 200 yard shot is easy to center of mass. A 100 yard shot to the head is easy.
With my 300 Win-mag I can do a 500 yard shot with my scope, even further if I wanted to pay for a super expensive scope.
Oddly my satisfying shots were open sights with a M1-Garand at 400 yards and hitting center of mass.
Oddly I today only shoot paper targets today. I lost the joy of shooting game but have no problem with hunters. One hunts my land and we share the deer meat. It is delicious.
A 200 yard shot with a high-powered rifle properly setup with the scope is not a difficult shot. A marksman with good skills can do it. The shooter did not take into effect the incline coming down from a roof the bullet drops more. He was likely aiming for Charlie’s head and a 30-06 round will drop several inches in 200 yards. And a bit more if it’s on an incline like what we saw here. This would explain the hit to the neck instead of the head.
An expert shot would’ve accounted for variables and got a clean headshot. This was not the case here.
I’ve got very good gear and match grade ammunition, and I can get six rounds inside the diameter of a grapefruit, at 300. Even 400 yards.
So in my opinion, the shooter is not a world class shooter.
Cut it out. Why do this? It muddies the waters and makes us look like kooks.
It was an ought six, I’m sure the bullet through and throughed especially if its first impact was the neck.
The shooter lived in Southern Utah. These folks learn to shoot deer and other critters not long after they leave the cradle. 200 yards with a 30-06 and a scope is easy.
You apparently have had zero experience with a rifle. 30.06 will drop about four inches at 200 yards. If the shooter aimed at the middle of the head the bullet would have hit exactly where it did. There certainty wasn’t enough apparent wind to make a difference. I you would like we can take my 30.06 M1 garrand to the range and I can show you.
but the video I saw just didn't show me
And the sound of the report on the video was wrong.
An old Mauser would have sent a big boom into that canyon.
Do you know of any sound analyisis that's out yet?
My immediate response to my wife was that shot was a gas operated 300 black out ... suppressed.
If there was an exit wound it would lend more credibility to the 06 ... but I have seen nothing and heard nothing indicating that ... have you?
I'm really at odds here ... I just want to know.
Gun @ hand is an .06. Gonna have to wait.
