there are certainly good books to be read, but they arent going to just fall into your lap
I guess that she has never heard of reading used books? There are so many great books written prior to the year 2000 than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime.
I have no need to support the current publishing industry which has no problem in displaying it’s hate for me.
“I read a lot but not fiction. I read history and historical biographies. Reading is a waste of time if one doesn’t learn something.”
Do you mean to imply that reading fiction is a waste of time? Incredible.
This man reads. Reads a lot. Fiction, nonfiction, I don’t care. But I must say that the only female authors I’ve ever enjoyed are Harper Lee and Joan Didion. And the novels of Susan Sonntag are crap.
Didn’t know MoDo was still active. Been a long time since she’s been posted here. Does the CZJ rule still apply?

Reading good, classic, timeless fiction literature is one of the best educations you can get. It’s not meant to teach you simple, banal skills, as so many on this thread want, i.e. how to replace the latch on a tailgate, or whatever.
Good fiction literature helps you to understand people, places, and times beyond your own, to see inside the minds of other people, to see how other people faced the fear of death, to see what other people are driven to by love, anger, fear, passion, to see patterns in human behavior across cultures and history, and to understand your own place in the world. And so much more.
There is a lot of crap fiction written today (and in the past too). But there is so much good literature out there that you can spend your whole life reading and not get through it all. Life is too short to read bad fiction, and life is also too short to not read good fiction.
Michael Connolly, Daniel Silva, Stephen Hunter. James Lee Burke, the late Nelson DeMille…. A few of my favorites. Just finished the latest Brad Thor it was a little too PC IMHO.
Being semi-retired, I spend much of my day reading. Bible and theology in the morning. History and natural science in the afternoon. Classic literary fiction in the evening. I read good, enriching, thought-provoking works. I don’t have time to waste on fluff and junk. My current to-read list should keep me busy for the next couple of years.
I must be the sexiest semi-retired man alive.
MoDo and the harpies at NYT would complain men read too much.
Incorrect. I am told, repeatedly, that my new novel, available on Amazon, is written in a style very similar to Clancy and Crichton.
I am the replacement you are looking for.
You want to read my stuff.
I’ll check it out.
Jane Austen must be spinning in her grave.
Take one look, aside from reading what this reductio ad absurdum “female” writes— Maureen Dowd no doubt is reading the vampire werewolf crap that went out with Anne Rice. Rice subsequent to Christian conversion (iirc, and maybe she died)- stopped writing such utter drivel with its not subtle subtext of “sex” in any form- with the living and the un-dead. Sheesh what a vapid ‘mind’ has Maureen Dowd. But, we all knew this certainly about Dowd and the many tik-tok publishers with the hostile fat-chick and purple/pink hair look (violent fem/antifa).
It's here.
Check out the reviews. 😊
I will pick up a copy!
Did pick up a copy.
You are the best. I hope you love it, I suspect you will!
Thanks. It looks interesting.
