Amen! I think you have to turn in your man-card for reading anything turned out recently. Endlessly-emoting vampires and female-focused porn are all there seems to be anymore (or, at least, all “they” talk about).
Give me David Drake and “Hammer’s Slammers”. I want Kenneth Robeson and his “Doc Savage”, but only after I get my teeth into Neville Grant and “The Spider”. And throw at me all the speculative sci-fi from the pulps to the ‘80s you can find (William Gibson and “Neuromancer” work, even though Hollywood is making it gay-oriented in a month or two).
They can have all their wedding angst, relationship paranoia, and “Hunger Games” money grabs and be welcome to ‘em.
When I was a teenager it was different. I read just about all the SF there was and Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey. I recently read a biography of L’Amour. Pretty amazing fellow.
Read all those, too, And Solzhenytsin. That was then, in youth.

“Attention, Men: Books Are Sexy!”
Attention, Men: Boobs Are Sexy!
There, fixed it (as if we didn’t know)
Are “Compiler Design Theory”, “Database Internals”, or “Compact Numerical Methods in C” considered sexy?
I must read technical books, but I like to read science fiction. The classic chick books are something I still regard as punishment.
Try “Murderbot Diaries”.
You will learn a lot from my fiction book.
Seriously.
Nobody is writing for men, which could be attributed to nobody is publishing books men want to read. Tom Clancy and Michael Chrichton have not yet been replaced.
I’m mostly reading noir. Max Allan Collins but that vein is almost played out.
“”””I read history and historical biographies. Reading is a waste of time if one doesn’t learn something.””””
Exactly, while women are reading basically the same meaningless fluff that 12 year old girls read, 100 of those books convey almost zero information.
I sometimes doubt my own analysis that I just described, when I ponder relationships, romance, and marriage, and the effortless transfer of hard earned wealth and cultural power from the male sex to the female sex.
Translation: Books sales are declining. Blame men.
...and by Fall, he came out.
Not Guilty!
“one of the most erotic things I ever heard. A man I know said he was reading all the novels of Jane Austen in one summer.”
Maureen’s gaydar is off.
