I normally spend 22+ hours a day either in bed or in an orthopedic office chair.

I’m so sorry to hear that, LP. I had imagined you were spending your days on a sailboat somewhere. I’m sure you have great memories of the days you did spend on the water before the pain confined you. I hope you’re able to get out occasionally, even as a passenger on someone else’s boat. I’m sad to read about your situation.

Hold still fur a minute! I’m gonna reach over here and throw my reality wet blanket on top of that 20 hour work week notion.

In my school years we had a chance to a study how General Motors made the first move to apply robotics to car production. They built a paper taped computer driven robotic arm and taught it how to paint cars. Their best painter would “wear” the arm, paint the car, the tape would remember how he did it, and from there on the guy only painted new models.

While they then needed fewer painters nobody got to work less. More models, more colors, growing production, kept every body working. As I recall, the ‘56 Chevy was the first machine painted car.

Every production improvement creates new opportunity for new variations. Every time a machine takes a short cut an opportunity to fix it and make it better happens.

Being associated with the firearms bizness for half a century , or so, the opportunities never end. When a maker goes cheap on a part I always see an opportunity to make the better one and customers love it.

One of my favorite example stories is with Henry Rifles. Their first rifle was a lever action 22 which I still have a couple of. They went cheap on the front sight/magazine band and made them out of plastic. Guys started coming into the shop with damaged ones. So I made a steel replacement which another fella started selling on the web. After a few hundred pieces went out, Henry got the word about quality, started making their own metal one, and have never gone back. That was 30 years ago. I quit and let them have it back but this has happened countless times over the last half century.

While some folks might see their job reduced to something a machine can do they will quickly starve if they think they can slide for the rest of the week. They will have to look for that next opportunity——which might very well be an improvement to something they were doing in the old job. Don’t bet your chips on a 20 hour job. It ain’t gonna work that way.

A new base line Census is smart and needed, after such a crisis from C19 and the Biden invasion arrived, since the last Census.

If POTUS were to lay down an extra-ordinary census form in 2025, or in ‘26, I do wonder if we could still keep the ordinary ten year Census, due in what(?), 2030?

Expecting to see more change coming, I would like to see that result, also.

And, with Linda coming asap.😄

Looks to be a little IRISH cooking going on, by the name. Am I wrong?

The sketch like artwork with a wood cover is so appropriate for aged recipes, with all the appeal of a family kitchen, fresh produce and meats, and the family cow. 🤌

Very close. My husband told me a couple of times it was Scottish. I kept my birth surname after marriage mainly because I already had a full-blown career and hundreds of contacts who knew me by that name. Our son has his Father’s name, of course, and that’s the name on the book.

When contemplating the design, the image in my mind was “old-fashioned” or “traditional”, because most of the recipes are very old-fashioned. I think I am too. Your observation about the aged look of the cover and the content is perceptive and describes my mindset perfectly.

Senate confirms Lohmeier to be nation’s 29th Air Force Under Secretary

Published July 24, 2025 Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs

WASHINGTON (AFNS) --

Mr. Matthew Lohmeier was confirmed July 24 by the Senate as 29th Under Secretary of the Air Force, placing a former fighter pilot and Space Force Guardian in the Department’s second highest-ranking civilian leadership post.

With a 52-46 vote, Lohmeier joins the Department of the Air Force with unique experience stemming both from previous active duty assignments with the Air Force and then the Space Force as well as from his career as a public speaker and author.

Articulating his bona fides for the position in his May Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Lohmeier said: “I have accumulated a deep background in strategy, policy, operations, and issues relating to human resources of our Airmen and Guardians. This includes the welfare of the servicemembers and their families.”

” I ‘think’ I met you at Sturgis”.

Yes, you did. I had just completed several operations for throat cancer. I was pretty raw, on pain meds and very much out of it. I kept falling asleep and had a good time anyway.

Give me and defconw a shout if you get this way again.

Aged recipes? The family cow? Yer making me hungry, here. My only recipe book is a picture of the first fat cow I killed. Probly when I was about 12. I think the pic is in one of the old family albums. One pic was enough. The cows have always looked the same since. Once you’ve hung, dressed, and skinned a cow it gets pretty obvious wot to do next. Not real sure what an Irishman does with a cow?

Tatooing the little cow is way more fun than branding-— Or she could just give you an ear tag?
