This theater is named after the “Kennedy Center”, not Kennedy...similar to something like the Baltimore airport - it is named after the city of Baltimore, not Lord Baltimore as the city itself is.
The Kennedy Center itself is not being renamed.

He’s not proposing to rename the entire Kennedy Center, just the opera stage within it. There are several theaters of various sizes and uses in the Kennedy Center. But Mr. Naked N. Unemployed needs his clicks.
