Most of these so called students were only indoctrinated by fools in academia that hate the US and our way of life, laws and Jesus Christ.

The new taxes on university endowments should help pay down these debts. Trump could then make the case these universities need to ‘pay their fair share’

Pay your debts. You signed the contracts.

Agreed. The headline's "to be hit" makes it sound like the borrowers didn't ask for it.

The number of loans out there combined with the poor quality of colleges I’d be angry too if I had to pay it off. Ironically the feds drop countless monies on the colleges too, what a racquet.

Taking every dime from taxpayers away from ALL colleges is a good place to start and the value of ‘private’ education will go up when government is completely out of it.

If charging interest winds up destroying the credit scores of millions, perhaps then the housing market will loosen up a bit.

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT; /ˈɛmkæt/ EM-kat) is a computer-based standardized examination for prospective medical students in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the Caribbean Islands. It is designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, written analysis and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles. Before 2007, the exam was a paper-and-pencil test; since 2007, all administrations of the exam have been computer-based.

The most recent version of the exam was introduced in April 2015 and takes approximately 7+1⁄2 hours to complete, including breaks.

Top private colleges have huge endowments these days.

A very interesting idea, indeed. Use credits from working instead of cash to pay down what they owe taxpayers. ... But if the government runs it, all control will be lost ... quickly.

If Mr. & Mrs. Graduate paid more in rent and student loan payments for several years than the PITI of the mortgage would be, then Mr. & Mrs. Graduate would appear to be well qualified for a mortgage.

Agree that they do get an new opportunity to show credit worthiness and possibly a higher credit score, but I suspect most of the deadbeats will be spending more on meth, given the way Trump is securing the border.

I suspect that hundreds of billions will have to be written off.

The annual tax rate might be based on the previous annual shortfall of income-based repayments.

It is my understanding that graduate degree loans are a big problem.

Maybe only medical school and law school loans should be issued, with a total dollar cap placed on new money law school loans of say $15 billion total each year.

As for masters degree financing, employers could do the funding.

Law school loans? Have Morgan and Morgan underwrite them as they are so large per their ads.

People should have been saving up for such a thing to come to pass. The forgiveness was going to come to an end and everyone knew it. Pay back your loans like everyone else before you did!

I thought the same thing when I heard about the pause. Now 4 years later many still owe the money and have that monkey on their back.

Instead of fixing the broken student loan system

Well what's "broken"?

You sign on the dotted line to borrow money - you pay it back. If you don't, it gets more expensive.

I thought the interest rate on those loans was like 3%.

Just treat it like any other loan.

I know I am way in the minority here. I think a lot of children, 17-18, and they are children, got suckered. I think back to when Bush/Clinton forced banks to give out bad loans. I think back to the bank crisis (solution - save the banks).

I think the student loan progams and problems go back to the same era and probably before. Loans went from the parents’ loan/guarantee to the student’s issue. I saw some of the issues at my school via an alumni director who 20+ years ago warned of the problem. Scools also radically changed tuition and costs. These same kids may also be faced with AI issues none of us can comprehend. If Trump wants to do someting “radical” maybe he can find a way on the burden (other than Biden’s) solution. (This has nothing to do with the fact that some/most paid and found their way out/fairness)

Two major crimes Joe Pedo should be in prison for committing. Aiding and abetting herds of foreign army invaders overtaking the American boarder and demanding taxpayers pay for “students” to go to school to learn how to throw tantrums and engage in “peaceful” obnoxious and violent protests.
