He turned ten the day he started to vomit.
I’m so sorry about your loss 😞
We have a great older mobile vet but he’s pretty limited on what he can do. He will send us to a local vet (lots of younger vets) for X-rays or such and half the time they refuse to do them for whatever reason. Once when he was out of town, we took our great pyr for an ear infection. We knew what it was and what always worked for us. The did not listen and it took 5 visits, a culture and two different rounds of meds until they finally prescribed the med I told them about. Total cost: $1500. For an ear infection 😡
The hardest thing for us is trying to find a vet for my goats. I thought I’d finally found one, an hour away. We had him come out and established him with our herd for a fee, and he said he’d be available for emergency visits and med prescriptions. I told him my biggest fear was my goat who always had difficult births needing a c section. He said he’d be there. Well, the time came, and sure enough, she had quads, first lived, I had to pull the next two who were dead, and the last one, also dead, was stuck and I needed him but he didn’t even take my call.
Hubby had to shoot her because she was in so much pain, bleeding out and dying. It was horrific. Enough for me to decide I won’t be breeding my goats for a while and therefore won’t be milking. I love raising goats but dang, it’s just too hard without at least an emergency vet.
