Entirely possible it is a survey. And I looked her up in LinkedIn, and I think she may have been a local real estate broker doing a side gig for the Census Bureau. But I didn’t focus on her face, I just was focusing on the conversation. The hair color and age are about right.
I’ll look at the Census Bureau site to see if they are conducting the American Community survey in my area. But why now, in 2025? To keep busy?
DO NOT call 911. That is not what 911 is for.
Call the local number. In some towns door to door folk have to register with the local police. They should know whether the person is legit.
I imagine on the Cape in early June, the cops are still looking for things to do. After Father’s Day, not so much.
I have been harassed by these people before.

I just watched Five Dollars A Day, the overlooked movie with the incomparable Christopher Walken. He conned everyone all day.
“Every day is my birthday” he told his son as he pulled out one of his many IDs.
“I know a guy who makes drivers’ licenses.” Restaurants gave him a meal or a discount and a piece of cake with a candle.

But to answer your question as to why, it’s always some scammer, religious nut, or someone trying to sell something.

This. This is correct.
I’ve had more sophisticated scammers calling lately. Impersonating police. Had lots of my personal information including addresses and relations. The number appeared legit and even got a call to confirm from another person supposedly over the “officer” that appeared on my caller id as the police phone number. They had been able to spoof it.
Bottom line is the need to be able to call them at a verifiable number.
Thankfully I identified it was a scam and suggested a place for them to go. As part of their scam invoked the FBI I contacted a friend who is an FBI agent and he confirmed there is an increasing number of these scams going on.
Not census time...
My front-door sign has always kept census takers away...
“I feel endangered, so I’m ending this interview.”
This would have been my first reply to any census agent.

We have a non emergency police number.
But the dispatchers say it doesn’t matter, they get the call either way.
And these people could for sure pose a danger .
They should have photo IDs and a way to verify them - phone call, etc.
