LA should bow out and use the money for the 1000's of homeowners and business owners and individuals who lost EVERYTHING in the recent fire storms. Screw the Unions and the LA Olympic committee. Screw the Olympics. Take care of your neighbors first!
They do not need to build new hotels when they can use cruise ships for lodging. Los Angeles should restrict drivers for the duration of the Olympics - Drivers with odd-numbered license plates can drive on odd-numbered days of the month...That's what we did in the '70s to buy gas.
If they want to build new hotels, it's only because the Democrats want to benefit from corruption associated with the Olympics.
Yes, the Paris Olympics of 1924 were something. Helen Wills, Johnny Weismuller, Duke Kahanamoku, Buster Crabbe, Chariots of Fire, Finnish distance runners. Oh. yes.
Nothing causes inflation worse than raising the minimum wage.
I have seen it and have lived it.
Cities don’t want to host the Olympic Games anymore. LA got the gig by default, there were no competitors.
They should just do it permanently where it belongs: Greece. Maybe they can buff up all the venues that went to sh!t there within months after the 2004 games.

Because the IOC started to demand too much from the host cities. Which is silly because you shouldn't need brand new stadiums just to host the Olympics.
Inflation is up six fold since your 1970 era $2.50 breakfast—so $30 is probably double what a comparable price should be for that coffee shop.
You must be in California. I do not pay $30 for that.
Everybody’s waiting for the federal government to drop multi billions in fire reconstruction largesse - a whole lot of beaks are going to get wet on that one and every grifter in southern Kali wants a piece of the action. As far as construction workers go, illegals don’t get minimum wage, do they? The real problem, and you can bet there are multiple committees burning the midnight oil to solve it, is how LA is going to make the opening and closing ceremonies any gayer than Paris did. I’m thinking the Olympic torch being carried in by a drag queen conga line. They won’t be making minimum wage either.
Yep, Bay Area (which is an anomaly in CA and in the nation).
When we bough tour vacation place in Idaho eight years ago, prices there were almost HALF of CA prices. But the disparity has shrunk. Now ID is maybe 25% less expensive than CA.
It’s time to move the Olympics to another U.S. city (and state) while there’s still time.
>>”The Olympics need to die. It was great during The Cold War, but it’s a shell of what it used to be, now that millionaires are competing.”
Yes. Agree. Or at least scale it back to what it once was - a chance for athletes of certain sports that don’t normally get a lot of exposure, like Wrestling, Amateur Boxing, Vollyball, Track & Field, Gymnastics and a few others, to compete in a worldwide forum. Having professional tennis, soccer, etc. is ridiculous. They already have their own big events. For example, there’s this little thing called The World Cup.
Strip it back to what it was in 1968:
Aquatics:
Diving: 4 events
Swimming: 29 events
Water polo: 1 event
Athletics: 36 events
Other Sports:
Basketball: 1 event
Boxing: 11 events
Canoeing: 7 events
Cycling: 7 events (2 road, 5 track)
Equestrian: 6 events (2 dressage, 2 eventing, 2 jumping)
Fencing: 8 events
Field Hockey: 1 event
Football: 1 event
Gymnastics: 14 events
Modern Pentathlon: 2 events
Rowing: 7 events
Sailing: 5 events
Shooting: 7 events
Volleyball: 2 events
Weightlifting: 7 events
Wrestling: 16 events (8 freestyle, 8 Greco-Roman)
When I see/hear Jim McKay’s name, I always recall the skier crashing and JM saying...”the agony of defeat”.
I remember hearing that live...didn’t know about muzzoid terrorism yet.
That was my introduction to The Middle East as a little kid.
Most if not all Los Angeles hotels hire illegals feel lucky with locked doors.
Just hotel workers. Fast food workers already have a minimum wage of $20/hr, Los Angeles City’s minimum wage is $17.68, hotel workers minimum wage is $21.01 as of July 1st.
That sounds about right.
