Lots of crazy stuff going on these days. I filed for Medicare a couple of years ago. I was born abroad and both of my parents were/are American citizens. I served in the military with some high level security clearances back in the day. I’ve had a continuous passport for over 40 years. The Medicare online process kicked me out and I had to bring in my State Department certificate of me being born abroad.
Thanks for the info we can get a replacement SS card online.
I’ve not tried to get a passport. My adopted mother destroyed my adoption papers so I couldn’t find my birth mother. Ironically my biological siblings found me.
You can order a new Social Security card at no cost to you.
That’s because you’re a man. Even tho i produced my marriage certificate from the church that married us (no problem having it accepted for the last 47 years), they wouldn’t take it. I had to go down to the courthouse and get a certified copy of our marriage license. Guess I was lucky we were married in the same county where we live. Otherwise would have tried to get one by mail. All of this is just a PITA. Wonder if they would have taken my DAR record of 20 verified Revolutionary War patriots as direct ancestors?
I think you’re going to need it to vote.
The first time I went in for Real ID, they wouldn’t even consider anything but a SS card. I had to order a new one.
But will you be able to vote?
Just found my Draft Card!
“If folks want to hand over extra cash to fly somewhere, rather than take a car/bus/train/boat, they can buy a RealID and skip the meal+drinks at the airport,”
.
At Massachusetts DMV, $3000 will get you a new DL—although it helps to speak Spanish.

‘Ever made that call?

Does Amtrak require a Real ID?
Since your biological siblings were able to find you, were you able to get a certified document showing you were born in the US and that you are a US citizen?
Have you had any trouble proving your age for driving purposes?
What about for applying for social security and Medicare; how did you prove your age?
Got my RealID 18 months ago and it was relatively cheap to purchase.
No
You don’t need your SS card, but something that had the number on it. I cannot remember what the alternatives are.
Same, and I was also renewing my license.
Some of the comments I’ve seen suggest that different states may have different document requirements or may have changed them over time.
Yes, I ordered a new SS Card online with no problem.
I had numerous documents with my ssn on it but they would only take a SS Card
You mean the little card that says “not for identification purposes” on it needs to be displayed to get a real ID?
