The Mao Luther King Jr statue.......GOOD ONE! Yes A MLB sculpture done by a Chinese sculptor, just think about that...Certainly not done by a black artist. Wonder what MLK would think about that.

Art is something the private sector can support. Tax-payers shouldn’t have to.

I have never understood any rationale for artists to receive taxpayers' funds--nor any other profession.

Some of these are legitimate artistic endeavors. This one, for example:

In a move criticized by Conservatives, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) gave a $10,000 grant in 2016 to Borderlands Theater in Tucson, Arizona, for a cactus theater. Attendees could commune with a saguaro cactus for an hour in the middle of the desert.

Think of how lonely that cactus could have been without an infusion of cash from Uncle Sugar. Here are some equally noteworthy projects, including $495,000 to create medieval smells in a museum, $845,000 to support film festivals that showcase movies with decapitated heads, public urination and sexual promiscuity, and just short of half a million to produce Shakespeare Without Words. No one's art education should lack that sort of exposure. Now shut up and pony up!

Art that is subsidized by the government is compromised.

Devil’s advocate question: Were the Medici and the Church back then the government or private patrons at that time?

Same question with regard to Shakespeare, who had powerful patrons who were also in the government.

You might not get a Sistine Chapel.

Wasn’t the Sistine Chapel a private commission?

“Art” is a matter of opinion.

By the Pope, whose serfs’ tribute and the Church’s revenues for indulgences was his to do with as he would. So he decided to commission Michelangelo to paint a ceiling, using his money.

No more crucifixes in beakers of urine, trying to pass for art! 😡

I was thinking about a little Muhammed figurine standing under a perpetual fountain of clear yellow liquid - it could be titled "Pi$$ be Upon Him." I might apply for a grant.

I am not sure if Trump understands Keynsianism, but this is a blow to it. Big government had for decades the cover of so called economists like Keynes, Galbraith and other left wing economist ilk. You would see claims like “1.00 spent in the arts creates $1.21 in value”. Big government is built on this nonsense.
