I just watched an episode of Time Team the other night where they were investigating the naval cemetery where they thought sailors who took part in the Battle of Trafalgar were buried. Several of the skeletons exhibited massive injuries to face, jaw, skull, and multiple broken limbs that they speculated were caused by falling from the rigging—that it was very common.
