The case has been made that he was off by more than one, because the usual listing counts several antipopes.
Bergolio may have been an anti-pope, so this prophecy may not apply to him.
Personally, I’m very skeptical of the St. Malachy prophecies.
You sure don’t.
RE: this is a stretch to say that Francis is the Peter in the prophecy
Saint Malachy said the last Pope will be “Peter the Roman”.
Who he is, is anybody’s guess.
CELEBRATE!!! IT SAYS CELIBRATE, not CELIBATE!
He certainly tried to be. His messing around in politics and social justice activism did much to countervail the scriptural basis for Catholicism.
“Cardinal Peter Turkson”:

“Peter the Roman” is #2 in the oddsmaker list:

(Sorry make that #3 on the list).
“Be fruitful and multiply”
Apparently the message got lost in translation. Sadly, it caused some people to miss The Point entirely.
1 x 7 x 3 x 7 = 147
😉
I remember when the geula bloggers were pretty worked up about the new pope because bear-gog-leo.
In any case, it’s surely time for a new kind of Francis — preferably one without a middle name in quotes!
