A resolution is nothing more than a waste of time. Since the 1930s, Congress has delegated tasks such as setting tariff rates to the chief executive as part of his foreign policy and trade negotiation duties so congress gave the President the power.
I thought Rand’s dad was a proponent of using tariffs to pay for the government instead of income taxes.
Smart guy, but he does not understand tariffs. Like most persons spouting fair trade economic theory, he fails to account for the fact that the goods AFTER production are consumed mostly in the US.
When a tenant for real estate brings 2500 employees to occupy the space. the prevailing rents per square foot go out the door. Trump knows this. What he brings to the table is 300,000,000 greedy self indulgent consumers who buy and consume something like 4 times the World rate.
According,y, just like the landlord with vacant office space, the foreign manufacturers get to pay a premium to access our consumers.
It seems so simple to a real estate baron. He needs to explain it to the economists who truly are ivory tower morons.
Wrongthink is the operative word in Washington. Rand is a smart guy in many ways, but like most in Washington he’s blind to doing things differently to achieve better results. Perfect example is Federal Reserve system. They employ hundreds of Economists (PhD’s) and yet they are perpetually wrong or grossly late on policy decisions. The real problem is myopia, as Washington is focused almost solely on what is perceived to benefit Washington and themselves before all else.

Still and all, one doesn't have to be an economist, in order to understand this tariff situation; one just has to have common sense.
There a very old saying : "COBBLER STICK TO YOUR LAST", which boils down to : DO WHAT YOU KNOW HOW TO DO, which should also include ONLY talking about things you know and understand.
Not only has Trump never been an economist, has talked about this for many decades, but he UNDERSTANDS what's what and he is correct!
