Yes I’ve seen the wisdom behind some of Rand’s anti-military intervention views — and his holding of Dr. Fauci & ilk to account for their part in ushering in the Covid horror show.

Difference between taxes and tariffs is choice!
I don’t have to buy products that have a tariff on them.
So I can regulate that expense.
Tax on a locally produced loaf of bread isn’t so easy to avoid.

Rand says: “tariffs are a tax”.
So...
What does he have to say about the tariffs
that other countries place on the U.S.?

Congress essentially delegated the authority to impose tariffs to the President via the Trade Act of 1974.

Here's an informative article by the Brookings Institute, published on 19 January 2025:

Why does the executive branch have so much power over tariffs?

Congress ceded authority to lay and collect customs duties to the executive branch in three acts:

- Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act of 1934 (RTAA)
- Trade Expansion Act of 1962
- The Trade Act of 1974

The RTAA authorized the president to negotiate bilateral, reciprocal trade agreements and to proclaim limited adjustments to tariff rates without congressional action.

The Trade Expansion Act of 1962 broadened this authority to include multilateral trade negotiations.

And The Trade Act of 1974 granted the president new authority to negotiate trade agreements and adjust tariffs, including the authority to take action against foreign countries that violate trade agreements or engage in practices that are deemed unfair and negatively affect U.S. commerce.

I'll grant you the Fauci bit; some of the military stuff is iffy, in my estimation.

But more often than not, Father and son Pauls have been/are on the wrong side, as far as I'm concerned.

You can’t avoid meds ( unless you and yours NEVER get ill with ANYTHING ), because almost ALL/the basics are made in China.

An absolute waste of political capital.

RAND fails to explain his decade of silence against TAXES imposed on America by outside forces.

And Ireland. I know... weird factoid.

Ireland has a major pharmaceutical production industry capitalizing on the globalization of America’s entire manufacturing outsourcing.

Some pro-tariff “counterpoints” to Sen. Paul:

A podcast discussion with PDJT’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick...the tariff discussion starts at 52:21 into the interview:

I have mixed feeling...bringing back production/jobs to America is great..inflationary pressure and stock market/Wall Street unfounded angst before the Congressional mid-terms not so good....but like “government austerity measures” there is never a “good” time these days...PDJT just wants to do the right thing for the country and “damn the torpedos” I guess.

Stop worrying about the markets, most of what's out there now is simply FEAR PORN!

Markets go up, markets go down, one day or even one week averages do NOT really matter, unless you are a day trader.

Mid-Term elections are ALWAYS worrisome; the fraud is a big deal, we need to up our ground game, stop being nervous Nellies!

Have you seen the video of their St. Patrick's Day Parade, in Dublin? There are hardly ANY whites in it!

Avoid those taxes. Buy American. The product may cost a bit more, but will last longer than cheap crappy CCP merchandise.
