“19-21 year olds?
Well, they can choose their sex at age 4 so what’s wrong?”
(and fight in war) Audie Murphy was 17 years old when he enlisted to fight in WWII. He was a kid and extraordinary warrior. Murphy was A Spartan on steroids and only 5’5” and 112 pounds. A true warrior to be honored.
These kids are not ordinary kids. They were chosen due to their incredible intellect and knowledge of AI and computers. They were tasked with a job of uncovering corruption and waste. They are doing this. Based on the screams from the left it appears they are doing this very well.
So they can code and do HR also? Do they also Door Dash?
I’m skeptical of this article.
That’s probably longer than their job interview, if that had one.
19-21 year olds ARE grown up.
Pifffff a 20 something is now vice chair of the DNC...
these guys are fine.
if you’re adult enough to vote at the age of 18 and adult enough to be drafted in the military at the age of 18 to protect our country and adult enough at the age of 18 to sustain serious injuries and/or loss of life in the process, then you’re adult enough to consume alcoholic beverages at the age of 18 years old...
The future belongs to the young. They have to try to fix all the crap the oldsters bestowed on them.
Kamala Harris would have flunked the test in less than five minutes.
Joe Biden would have flunked it as well.
As for Republicans, Mitch could never pass it either.
"...An unnamed federal worker..."
And even then-I don't care. Simply don't care.
People have their panties in a twist because of an unverified report that 19-22 year olds are making decisions.
If it is getting rid of "employees" at a government agency spending BILLIONS of our tax dollars each year without oversight giving said money to ENEMIES, a government agency that is dedicated to advancing Leftism, a government agency that was a prime instrument in the weaponization of government...
I will not cry any damned tears over this. Not a single one.
Given Musk’s abilty to find and hire the best of the best, these are probably two of the 19-21 yr olds who are qualified to do this.
” ... Periodically, I sat down and wrote an elevator pitch should anyone ask me ...”
This is EXCELLENT advice. Everyone here should make it a point to strongly advise young people they know to do this. Great professional move.
That is EXACTLY how I see it.
I’m only one guy on FR but if Brandon had hired youngsters to do what Trump and Musk are doing, I would have been floored at the boldness and creativeness. I would have wondered where the brilliance came from. I wouldn’t have complained anywhere, especially here.
I was one of those bewildered and outraged at Biden hiring a raft of IRS agents to audit Americans and examine every deposit over $600.
Nobody had any trouble with wisdom and experience when I was a 21-year old combat platoon leader in Vietnam with supervision over older sergeants.
I had to assess people instantly all the time. If I would have gotten it wrong, I was going to be fired (we called it relieved of command).
So I have no pity for any person who can’t justify being kept on the job in a 33-second pitch, as another poster here has suggested.
The average age of a B17 pilot in WWII was under 24. I think a 19-21 yo college grad can make an employment decision.
I am sure that is true. You need a lot of experience to ask the right questions.
I’m not so sure those young geeks are the right ones to be asking those questions.
I am sure they are not the right ones. If this is really happening as reported, it is a studied insult at best. Only people with exceptionally stable composure can pass such an interview. There is no way a 20-something with no experience can assess whether the subject does something essential or even something useful in their regular job.
It comes down to whether the attitude of the interviewer is compatible with the attitude of the subject.
The kids might do better to just draw lots and fire people on an 80/20 odds rate. It will come down to that result in the end.
I call BS. As fast as these guys are collecting and sorting data, they have no time to interview 10,000 USAID employees. It’s more likely that while they were downloading data and waiting for the download to complete they were simply engaged in smalltalk with some of the nervous staff that happened to be nearby. I am also going to assume that not all of these wiz kids are the most socially adept in the room.
Life imitates art
“I’m a PEOPLE PERSON”
This is easy.
Here are the questions.
Name
Title
Years of Service in Government
Years of Service in Current Position
Give a brief description of the knowledge, skills and ability you bring to your job.
Describe the most important task you accomplished in the past month.
What were the biggest challenges you faced in accomplishing that task?
Discuss another recent accomplishment for the agency/department.
Discuss the challenges you faced and overcame.
That is it.
No technical knowledge required.
If they had outstanding speaking skills they might be able to bluff their way through—but that is a great skill in itself that makes them worth keeping.
