I have always believed that if I was a doctor in charge of a unit, I would give an absolute order that no soldier would ever have Christmas Eve or Christmas Day marked on a death certificate.

My grandpa was a member of the 687th Field Artillery Battalion, and he was one of many who were captured on 16 December 1944. While he was liberated by Soviet soldiers and got to go home, it profoundly impacted him, and he died at 52 when I was very young.
