Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said during a podcast Thursday that she’s concerned about elites and cultural figures openly associating with President Donald Trump.
Numerous celebrities, including musicians and comedians, appeared at Trump’s inauguration on Monday. Ocasio-Cortez, on “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart” said Trump being “much more normalized” in his second term makes him “so much more dangerous” than he was in his first term.
“What makes this go-around with Trump so much more dangerous than the first time around is … he is much more normalized this time around than he was the first time,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “The first time, people were really on edge. They were on guard. They were very vigilant about any break that he would have with these norms. This time, the norms are becoming him, like the norms are embracing him.”
“Even these little things that … everyday working people may not care about, but they are strong cultural signals — Oscar de la Renta like dressing all of the women [for Trump’s inauguration] — like there’s all these cultural symbols … All of these people that were scared before about being associated with him, from the most common basic level to the most elite level, they’re all-in now because this is now a billionaire feeding frenzy,” she said. “It is a kiss-ass race. It is, ‘How can I show how much fealty I have to Donald Trump in order to get my digs?'”
Trump’s inauguration also saw financial backing from Big Tech companies, some of which had previously banned him from their platforms.
Moreover, left-wing groups protesting Trump’s second presidency on Monday had plans to “fight back” with thousands of participants, but that’s not what occurred. Rather than the expected 10,000 protesters, the Daily Caller News Foundation observed a crowd of dozens standing in the snow and complaining about the icy weather against a backdrop of unused megaphones.
Trump committed to reversing Democratic Party policies. He criticized Democrats during his inaugural address and said “America’s decline is over,” according to a transcript of his remarks.
The relationship between these people and Donald Trump is not substantially different than it was BEFORE Trump seriously began running for President (as opposed to the noises he made decades ago). It wasn’t until he threatened the establishment that he became Orange Hilter.
It’s only because the mainstream media is attempt to ostracize him is no longer working.
AOC has a firm grasp on the obvious. Immediately after the 2016 election David Brock of Media Matters, also known as the Soros paid propaganda machine, asked donors to fund an anti Trump PR campaign. He promised that Trump will never be allowed to become “normal”. Then came the breaking norms campaign. They shot their wad at Trump. Now the left is exhausted and broke. Much like a slug that reacts to pain, AOC notices that the left doesn’t have the juice to cancel Trump and MAGA anymore.
She was not ion the Floor of the House when she said that, so she gets no protection from that .
He should sue the crap out of her. For a billion dollars.
I wonder how many of AOC’s friends have “I’M WiTH STUPID” t-shirts . . .
Ancient Persian proverb said, “Don’t let your tongue cut off your head.” Treason trial and execution.
HEY ocassional-cortex you should go back to Tending Bar and STOP PRETENDING that you have a clue about politics. I’m sure you have already stolen enough money from The American People to survive on.
So “cultural” arbiters have less leverage and influence now? How inconvenient!
Poor AOC can’t scare people anymore!
You did good spot on.
Maybe a third, she may be a good “orator”...
Trump is more popular than ever, Americans have buyers regret over how Biden’s term ended up, and the woke stuff went too far. A perfect story to get rid hang ups over ‘normalizing’ Trump. Culture is not what the left tried to make it from 2016-2024.
