A song apparently inspired by "The Doggie in the Window" and "Hound Dog."

(How Much Is That) Hound Dog in the Window?--Homer & Jethro (1953)

“You’ve got it, that’s it, you had it!”

It’s the first on that came to my mind.

I love that under rated song!

“Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles
What makes you think you’re something special when you smile?”

The very popular country song: “My wife ran off with my best friend and my favorite hound. I’m sure gonna miss that dog.”

Kudos to the author for digging up the ancient “Gulliver” from Elton John’s “Empty Sky” album. At the time reviews thought it was a standout track.

Now, this song isn't about dogs, per se, but it was the opening theme to the awesome movie "Dog" which, if you haven't seen it, is brilliantly good!

This thread inspired me to resume the search for a song I last heard about 69 years ago. Although I didn't know the title or the performing act, I remembered the melody and some of the lyrics, and noted that the sound was similar to other popular songs from the Truman era. I renewed my search when I saw this thread and finally tracked it down this evening. It sounds exactly as I remembered it from the mid-1950s.

Three Little Puppies--Anne Lloyd and Michael Stewart (1949)

Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” was named after a stray dog that wandered thru the studio during the session.

Here’s a live slow & sultry blues arrangement of “Black Dog” by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

31: Henry Gross: Shannon

Before we met, my husband bought, on an impulse, a Siberian Huskey at a mall pet store (ug). He named her Shannon because of this song.

Our Shannon was a bit like the dog Marley in Marley and Me. She ate a big part of his couch and was a big hot uncontrollable mess.

If I was on the phone talking, she’d bark incessantly, she would try to jump up on the dining room table to steal food, she didn’t know how to walk on a leash, hadn’t been completely house broken, and if she had the chance, would run away and wreak havoc on the neighborhood including crashing a neighbors cookout one time where she jumped up on their picnic table and scarfed down a bunch of food.

Once when we had some friends over for steamed crabs, she got into the trash can and ate crab shells, necessitating a trip to the emergency vet when one got stuck in her throat.

One time when I was trying to give her a bath outside, a neighbor called the police because Shannon was yelping and crying so badly, she though someone was abusing a dog. Shannon when younger loved rolling around in the snow but water was like hot lava to her.

But it wasn’t entirely her fault. He didn’t spend any time training or socializing her and he and his roommate at the time left her alone for way too many hours.

That was left to me after we got married and it was touch and go for a time. I told him at one point, “it’s either me or the dog” but I came to love her so.

When she crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 14, I was with her at the vet’s when she passed, my husband was too emotional to be there, but we planted a lilac bush in our backyard in her honor because the flowers reminded us of her deep blue eyes.

While not a song about a dog, I loved this scene from the movie.
