Folks, this is nothing new.
Waaaay back in 1975, I applied to work for the Bell Systems (The Telephone Co) as a microwave tech. Had the traning, licenses and hands on experience.
The HR guy (yes, it was that far back in time) told me that I was perfect for the job and he would love to hire me but **could not**. This, NOT allowed to hire
“FedGov,” he said, “I can only hire “Black WACs” (black female vets) and preferable, disabled ones at that.”
Seems the FedGov though that TPC had way too many white folks working for the outfit.
I shrugged and got on with my life. In 1984, the system was broken up, again, by the Feds.
Everything old is new again, only worse.
I am 62. My wife died March 25, 2024. My plan is to work to the middle of next year and then sell everything I own and move to the Philippines.
I can live there well on $1500 a month and not be subjected to the ridiculous culture war in the US.
I understand your thinking.
That’s because most government jobs now are just another extension of welfare. Go to almost any post office and it is overwhelmingly black females, most of whom used to be on welfare.
No chance. There are NO commercials with all white family.
I experienced this in 1981. 4 hour interview to be told they couldn’t hire me because I was white.
They wasted 4 hours of my time is what pissed me off more. The minute they saw me, they could have taken the application but no...
My family is not close and I am all alone. I figure I can get at least $1200 a month from social security. I also will get $1000 from my wife’s pension. Total $2200 minimum a month.
My house is paid for. I figure to sell it and everything I own, pay off all bills, and this should leave me with a $100,000 to bank for emergencies and extras.
I can easily live off just the social security and pension money alone.
Most state labor laws wouldn’t allow “a 16 year old high school girl” to work
“a lot of time in the desert, alone”. 18, yes.
Wow, I never really knew you. Even if blacks were discriminated against that does not justify more UNCONSTITUTIONAL discrimination against whites. Man, YOU ARE ALMOST A FLAMMING LIBERAL....
Devout Christian is an interesting name.
In IT everyone is turning into an Indo or Paki import.
Culture war is creeping in there too but nothing like here. LGBT “communities” are the big thing and featured on TV.
I worked with dozens of black woman over the years.
There were two who were brilliant, charming, very well qualified for their jobs, and a pleasure to be around.
Both were very light skinned btw.
The rest fell into two categories:
—Unqualified but friendly—about 25%
—Unqualified and hostile—about 75%
I won't be living near or in any of those. I don't like faggotry.
OK, I think we need to part ways on Free Republic. You are not willing to discuss things rationally.
I never once even *insinuated* that discrimination against whites (or blacks) was Constitutional (or desirable).
mine is from september 1973 (i will not say pacbell)
took a test for a motorized messanger(deliver mail to offices)
my dad had worked for PT&T from 1947 knew the HR manager. got me a test. scored probably as high as you did. never heard form them. found out later i was the wrong color period...
my old man was hot hot
funny thing was 6 yrs later my wife, my brothers wife and my brother all got hired, but again not me..
Which island will you be living on? Good luck there.
Don’t know about now, but it was pretty common in the 70s for high school kids to work on ranches and other jobs during the summer.
Arizona law - current:
“While school is not in session, 14 or 15-year old children may work:
Up to 40 hours per week. Up to 8 hours per day.
Until 11:00 p.m. on days when there is no school the following day. After 6:00 a.m. on days when there is no school the following day.
Door-to-door delivery or solicitation sales jobs until 7:00 p.m. on evenings when there is no school the following day....
Youth who are either 16 or 17 years old can work in a variety of jobs but (usually) can’t perform work that the law has deemed too hazardous. Potentially hazardous work includes tasks related to radioactive materials, quarry or logging occupations, and power-driven metal working. “

Yes, I remember that.
In my state 16-17 year olds are limited to 4 hours work a day on a school day. 14-15 year olds 3 hours a day. And all must have supervision.
> Any tips on looking for contract work? Any particular website you used?
LinkedIn has good job postings. Monster has slid way down the hill. Beware of Asian Indian recruiters. I have never ever gotten a call back from one after the initial conversation.
> Also, how was the transition to contract work?
Easy. Yeah, I know my stuff but the best part is no office politics and everything is remote with my job. Of course I don’t get paid for holidays but the pay is better.
